Why do I need an Imperial motif?

I browsed quite a few threads that were produced by searching [Imperial Motif] and none answered my question.

Having the Imperial edition grants any character race the ability to transform any item into it's Imperial counterpart. This renders the Imperial motif useless, unless I am missing something.

Is that the actual intent form development? It would seem that only Imperial characters would be granted this conversion ability.

Hello, once you convert armor to Imperial it becomes bound. If you have the motif, you can craft the items for friends or trade/sell. I think it is just a way to make available the style of Imperial while still allowing those items to be traded.

Yes, if you have the Imperial Edition all of your characters can transform any item (well, almost any item - you still can't transform unique items that you find, set items that you find, etc) to its Imperial counterpart, and that seems to be intended (although you can only craft the Imperial style without the motif if your character is an Imperial).

That doesn't make the Imperial motif useless, though, as it allows people who didn't buy the Imperial Edition a way to get Imperial style items. Additionally, if you convert an item to Imperial style it becomes bound, so you can't sell or trade it to another player. The same is not true of crafted Imperial items.

Thank you for the reply. I didn't think about the BOE or in this case BOConversion. I knew this ability was available to all of your characters from the second day of release. However, I just found an Imperial Motif in a chest with a level 3 character and it posed the question of why I actually needed it.

That and... it doesn't make sense why any character other than one of your Imperials, could simply be able to this. Thus posing the question of it's actual intent.

I thought it may simply be a bug.

Yeah, lore-wise it doesn't make much sense to me that any character can do it, but it does seem to be intentional.

Of course I've seen some people complaining that they bought the Imperial Edition and they can't craft Imperial style with their non-Imperial characters. They feel that it's false advertising, even though they can still convert if they just want it for their own personal use, and even though they can create an Imperial character for crafting if they really want to be able to sell/trade/give the gear to other players.

It really doesn't affect me as my main character (who is also my primary crafter) is Imperial. He's also the only one of my characters who uses Imperial gear, as I like all of my characters to be in the appropriate gear for their race.

Looking back, I should have made an Imperial to be my crafter, not an Orsimer ~.~
But at the time I was foolish to think that the Imperial motif would not be a "special" one and would actually drop as frequently as the other racial ones.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I'm playing a Redguard and can make anything I craft Imperial and I bought the Imperial edition.

Just right click the Item and swap to Imperial. Simple.

Yes, but as I said a couple of posts above yours that's different from crafting Imperial, as if you do it that way it becomes bound. That means you can't sell/trade/give it to another player. Makes no difference to me (my main crafter being an Imperial), and I don't really understand why some people think it's a big deal (is there a big market for Imperial gear that I don't know about?) but for that reason your method doesn't seem to satisfy everyone who bought the Imperial edition.
