Auction House / Guild Trader / potentially dangerous 3rd party programs

I've never been broke like this in any other MMO. People are using 3rd party executables like Nirn to snipe lower selling items and jack the price up sky high. I spent a couple of hours chasing around the map to guild traders, only to find the item that I wanted had been purchased and the price increased 1000%. You have people that are sitting with billions of gold in their banks and a few select guilds that manage to bid for the trader spots. Meanwhile, lots of other customers are left out and scraping together just enough gold to make a potion or two (exaggeration intended).

What happens if these 3rd party programs like Nirn get compromised on the backend?

Apparently, there has been dozens of posts on a centralized Auction House. So, this probably falls on deaf ears.

Not deaf ears, but on the whole it's not wanted. And I guess more importantly not something the Devs were looking to progress (they talked about it at the
berlin event last year some time, it was posted on here I think by @Turelus )

I can't speak for AddOns as I'm console..but I'm an advocate of the current system. Used correctly it benefits the little guy - if you are smart and put the effort in. AH would ruin a section of the game many enjoy, trading.

I'm confused tho as the add on you are refering to sound like a global auction house and the type of problem they bring. These fat cat billionaires you speak of would THRIVE with a central house..

The little guy right now can make deals by using effort, and being shrewd. I.e. why are you buying potion mats when they are lying around, writs, Tel var etc.

Anyway AH threads go the same way every time and it's never good. Folks passionate about their reality / view..

On PC at least people scrape the Tamriel Trader website so there's not much point using it to find bargains or stuff everyone wants either. There are also people who specialize in monopolizing things like specific rarer crafting motifs to drive the prices up. Tamriel has a capitalist economic system complete with a certain amount of corruption and monopoly racketeering involved.

If you instead treat it as a guide to prices and no more then drop in at random smaller guilds and pick off low priced stuff you want then you can usually save a huge amount. For that matter if the prices are really high you can always farm your own. There are things you need particular content to farm but not that much, and there is nothing in game that you cannot obtain yourself (or with others in a group) without being part of some trading guild.

I would actually argue the reverse of an auction house is needed - they need to randomly assign guild stores to the travelling merchants every hour or so, so that there is more opportunity for trading and finding interesting things.

As to the Nirn backend - if someone compromises it then I imagine Zenimax will remind people that AddOns are used at your own risk and so be it.

I'd prefer they give the super-billionaires something else to do with their money.

The game has close to zero goldsinks at the moment outside the guild trader bidding system.
