Ideas to making player based Guilds more "needed"

I feel like many commenting here are missing the mark of why ive posted so please allow me to explain, I am 100% for Guilds lol, hell i am Leader over 5 actually, what i am saying is that ZoS really needs to cater a bit more to the Guilds wants/needs, otherwise Guilds will inevitably leave ESO, as many already have. Im NOT saying that doing stuffs in zone chats is the better approach, im saying it happens, atleast it happens on PC NA, idk about the others. ZoS SERIOUSLY needs to consider the needs of the Guilds.

I don't understand how your needs aren't getting met. You have Message of the Day, you have your guild homepage, you can update as often as needed. You can make a social calendar, you can further organize on Discord/Teamspeak, you can have people organize to make events, you can stream your events on Twitch to those unable to attend. Is there another game that you're trying to mash ESO into their format, or set your expectations to that level?

One guild need would be better roster management. Member stats are entirely handeled by addons or spreadsheets. Ever had to do weekly promotion/demotions? You have to promote/demote through every level 1 at a time. Trade guilds need sales/donation stats for members, would be nice to have some way of tracking member activity other than "please mark yourself as online at least once a week or we may drop you" because there is NO OTHER WAY for guild leaders to know if someone is playing the game. (A lot of PvPers play in offline mode permanently.)

Maybe allow us to hide equipped tabards with outfits and not just costumes.

ACTUAL GUILD HALLS. Maybe with extra slots for crafting stations, or something so that half of a Notable home isn't just crafting stations, mundus, target dummies, etc.

GUILD MAIL - have you ever tried to send out a mail to your entire guild? On PC we have to wait 20mins for an addon like GodSend to mail 500 people one at a time, I'm fairly sure no one on console goes through with that insanity.

More finely tuned guild privs, and momentary suppression. Eg - trade guilds again... most GMs have to manually remove ability to see amount of gold in bank when bidding, because of spying (yes, it does happen, really). Some don't allow anyone except those with bid perms to see gold in bank.

There is a LOT of guild functionality missing from the base game. AS far as that making guilds "needed"... that's ridiculous. Guilds are a part of this game, but the devs could do a LOT more to make managing guilds easier on GMs.

I do not agree with making players "need" guilds, because that is forcing a playstyle that not everyone enjoys.

The impact of guilds was lost the moment they let players join more than one and didn't add a guild tag above the players name.

So, join only one guild. How much switching, adding, dropping, and complaining would be happening if you could only join one guild? You want to trade, but your guild doesn't, so drop it and find a trading guild. Now that you're trading and have some gold, you want to pvp, but your trading guild doesn't pvp. So drop it and find a pvp guild. Now you can pvp, but you have no gold coming in, but you can't trade because your pvp guild isn't interested in trading at all. So drop the pvp guild and find another trading guild. You want to clear quests in pve zones, but there is no interest from other players in your trading guild to do pve quests and bosses. So drop the trading guild.....

Nah, more than one guild for multiple interests is not a bad idea. And having a flag over my head constantly would suck for many reasons.

I suppose it depends on what one means by "guild" - a close group of companions who all work together towards common goals/know each other/etc (guilds in most other MMOs I've played), vs several huge groups of random strangers that you're just hanging out with because <game mechanic> is based around it.

True. However many people actually find a common ground with other people who have the same interests. If you are all pvp all the time, but you need to make gold to do your pvp, you're not really going to integrate well with a group that is primarily interested in trading. Likewise, someone who wants to play Elder Scrolls: Trading IS the End Game, they're not going to be paying much attention to your yearning to do pvp. If you want your name on leaderboards, random people who may or may not be that into improving their scores is probably not the best way to go about it. However, building a group of like-minded players that is constant/dependable to run the content with probably is...you know, a guild. Guilds aren't mandatory. But they aren't a bad idea either, especially if you find the ones that support your interests and play styles.

If I had to guess, I'd say the biggest misunderstanding here comes from your title. Do you want more players to be encouraged/required to join guilds? Or do you just want players already in guilds to have more options?

Personally, I'm all for both (Not requiring guilds, but definitely more encouragement to join one or two). However, to get the latter, you'd have to work on the former as well, and ZoS has shown they have little desire to create community amongst their players. Oddly enough, they've kind of put themselves in a situation where the game heavily favors social play, yet strongly steers players towards solo.

So sadly, I see very little hope for the future of guilds in this game.

Why do players need to be encouraged to conform to someone else's playstyle?

@SilverBride It's not about conformity, it's about expanding. It's hard to explain if you've never had it before, but finding people in game that you really gel with and enjoy playing with changes your entire experience, and I believe a lot of the adamant "solo-only" players simply haven't had such an opportunity. By enticing people to at least TRY it, you open the door for more people to have that experience.

This works out for everyone involved. Players who are already into the multiplayer aspects of MMOs will have more people to connect with. Those who weren't to begin with now have a whole new section of the game (and their social life) to explore. And those who try it and legitimately don't enjoy it, well, we're glad you at least stopped by, and you can go back to playing how you like.

Ultimately, the only things that keep players coming back to a game are content, competition, and community. Content can only be made so fast, and the game's performance can't handle any real form of competition, so community is what really supports this game between expansions. By bolstering that aspect of the game, you directly increase the game's longevity as an MMO title. Unless they decide to really go full single-player-live-service game, which uh. . . may actually happen at some point. But it's hard to sell cosmetics when you can't show them off so we might be good for now.

Players don't have to try something they don't want and they don't need anyone's permission to "go back to playing how they like".

I am not anti guild, but I am anti trying to force things on others.

Community is not something that would ever keep me coming back to a game. Or a forum....

Now, if I had a viable "real" broadband connection, I might try some small group content. I still wouldn't bother with guilds, trials, or pvp.

    Yeah I completely agree.

For some of us who do want to be a part of a community and talk to people and play together with the people we get along with is kinda want for me when it comes to an MMO.

But what can we do at this point other than just complain on the forums and hope for the best.

I don't see it as conforming.

I see it as my finding other players who have play styles that conform to what I want to do. The guild/group isn't enforcing some kind of conformity on me, I'm finding people who play like I do. My social guild is mostly older players who do pve and trials. No need for instant twitch reflexes and no one freaks out if a group wipes doing a trial. My trading guild consistently gets a trader and lets me list as many items for sale as I feel like doing, without requiring dues or set sales amounts. No one is forcing me to conform to what I see as a grind of high volume sales to make the gold to pay the dues so I can start the whole cycle again. If I join a guild and find the group doesn't have what I'm looking for, I'll drop it. It does neither myself or the group any good if I feel I'm being forced into activities I don't want to do. A good guild can make playing the game more fun.

    Dungeon finder best invention ever!

I am pleased that you like it, i will admit i use it sometimes aswell,, what i am meaning here though is that as a Guild Leader, i see more ppl using it rather than relying upon fellow guild members, the introduction of group finder has hurt Guild activity.

You view a guild as a social construct where players constantly work together and help each other. So for you this situation is bad. Others view guilds as means for doing something specific like trading etc. Iam currently a member of 2 guilds, a trading guild and a guild bank guild. I dont find much use for social guilds because many things in the game allow me to simply socialize and cooperate with the community as a whole.

If you look at dungeons you have a dilema, you can ask your guild, but it will either take for ppl to respond or not enought ppl are interested for the particular content. The finder on the other hand will always connect you to all the players with similar wishes. I would even like to see finders or group boards for trials, arenas and PvP to better connect players that want to do the same stuff even better.

That is great. I am in a guild myself because I choose to, not because someone else thinks I should be.

But it is not ok to force players into aspects of the game they have no interest in.
