Also you get 6% more SD from your offhand and bonus damage to immobilized or stunned targets.
Keep in mind, this ONLY is effective if you can REMAIN in melee range. If you have to run around, or hit things from a distance (i.e. Orbs), you will have less dps.
Reason for not doing 2H is fire staff gets 10% more ST damage, and at best your 2H is really only giving you some SD with no other passives.
Dual wield is great for magicka templar in pvp. Dual maces nirnhoned mainhand + sharpened off hand will get you more spell damage and penetration than a staff is capable of.
1. Why is nirnhoned better on main hand than off hand?
2. Since enhants are weaker on DW, should I choose enchants that grant effects than stats? like shock and frost...?
I use a maul as a magplar for the extra spell penetration. You could also use DW for more spell damage, but I personally don't think this is worth it over a destruction staff as it's pretty minor and you'll have no range attack (for when it's useful) and can't heavy attack with it to gain magicka back.
I use DW and resto or 2H and Resto on my hybrid and mag builds all the time, the main reason being that I find the major breech debuff pointless in reality and a waste of a bar slot, need that stam return, and also major evasion or rally can be quite strong with the right build.
If I want breach on a melee mag char, I'm slotting caltrops and enjoying a snare too, instead of a cleansable skill.
