DW vs Inferno Staff

With the 10% single target damage buff now on Inferno Staves, what do people think of the disparity? Are they equal in terms of damage? Besides the whole benefit of dmg done vs raw stats for healing and aoe's.

This would depend on your group makeup.

    It's more of a situational answer/debate tbh.

This. I do prefer the staff though, even when I frontbar DW and backbar staff, I find myself on backbar more than any other set up. Depends on class as well, for a templar I like DW/2H because I'm up close jabbing anyways, but I could imagine magcro, magden, or magsorc would all like a staff since they can spam from a distance.

    This.

Context is very important as it would differ based on build, style of play, and group makeup.

On my Templar I get the best dummy results with DW.

But if you can't maintain melee, even for a short while in a real world scenario, then staff will end up performing better overall. I bring DW to daily normals, running around overland, questing, etc.. because it looks cooler. But for harder content, any Veteran content I would generally prefer a staff for more flexibility.

Thanks for all the responses. Was talking pvp wise. I decided to go DW on my magdk instead of destro staff and am liking it.

I started dw on my magdk this month. dw/sb.
magdk is all about pressure and I wasn't feeling ranged. dw took a getting use to, but it hits hard. I needed high MR to last in fights. otherwise, gtg

I forgot to add... it was the wrong patch to go melee magdk. just the wrong patch.

Yeah, personally, if you're mag in PvP you want to be ranged (exception being magplar, but even then I like staff). You have low defense, but more importantly in my opinion is if someone survives your burst and runs off to heal and rebuff. As a stamplar, if a melee stam took doesn't burst me down and I have resources left (resources being key), ill be able to reset the fight and line up my combo. You'd be better off keeping pressure high with ranged attacks while I attempt to major expedition away, purge and heal.

My pvp magcro, mag dk, and magplar are all dw or 2h on front bar, resto or frost on back. Staff / SnB has its perks as well. Really comes down to the player at that point. Your play style, and whether or not you know how to defend/survive.

    Depends on your preference really
I use staves more often than not because I can heavy attack from range, it's really useful against people who try to run in pvp which happens a lot, considering I don't always run gap closers on mag toons.
Also force pulse is another major reason, I use that as spammables on a few of my mag toons and you can't use it with a melee weapon.

I really don't see much difference between the two really tbh, just depends on what you'd rather get out of it at this point
