Is there an order for taking scrolls?

I was told that Altadoon must be taken before Mnem can be taken, but I've occasionally seen Altadoon taken before Mnem.

So, is there an order for taking scrolls or a prerequisite?

Altadoon is an offensive scroll and mnem is a defensive scroll. Your alliance needs to own the same type home scroll for you to be able to take the enemies same type of scroll.

For dc alma ruma is defensive and ni-mohk is offensive

For ep ghartok is offensive and chim is defensive

Yep, the scrolls are color coded. If a faction doesn't have one color scroll, they can't take that color from other factions until they get their own back.

Other than that, there is no order to take scrolls in except to try to set the map for one objective or another.

In this picture, AD has all the Scrolls.

The end caps of the Scrolls denote the Alliance - yellow end caps for AD are placed in AD'S scroll temples, red end caps for EP's Scrolls, and blue end caps for DC's Scrolls.

The middle sections are purple for a defensive scroll and orange for an offensive scroll. You need to place enemy Scrolls in a home keep in order to get the buffs. Your alliance may have specific places for where to put the scrolls depending on how the map looks at the time.

Your alliance has to have their home defensive scroll before they can capture the enemy(s) defensive Scrolls. Likewise, you need your Offensive scroll safely in your scroll temple before you can capture enemy Offensive Scrolls.

    AD Defensive - Mnem
    AD Offensive - Altadoon
    DC Defensive - Alma Ruma
    DC Offensive - Ni-Mohk
    EP Defensive - Chim
    EP Offensive - Ghartok

So in that picture, it looks like EP's scroll of Ghartok is real close to DC territory, right? Well, DC can't touch it until they first capture Castle Blackboot and take safely lodge their Elder Scroll of Ni-Mohk back at their scroll temple.

The short(ish) answer is no... if everyone has their own scrolls. If you're EP and you have both of your own scrolls, you can go after offensive or defensive scrolls from the other factions.

Some people might prefer to get one or the other first, but as long as your faction has both their own scrolls, any scroll they want and can get is up for grabs.

But as has been mentioned by many others, if your faction is missing a particular scroll (offensive or defensive) they have to get that scroll type back before they can go get the same type of scroll from a different faction.

Can also depend on the buff your faction is after as each scroll comes with a different bonus.
