Genuine question as I'm mostly ignorant to this end of the concept:

Is there any reason why Console can't be returned back to client side? Are people able to "cheat" on console? Or was there other reasoning for the swap to server side? Stadia? Other platforms?

I'm not exactly privy to all the streaming and service platforms as I've been off PC for over a decade. But i'm fairly sure people on PS and Xbox aren't playing through Steam and Stadia right?

Here's the kind of thing you can expect if ESO was run on client.
This is ps4 when the game was mostly run client.
So yes, you can and always could cheat on console.

It makes sense that all three systems would follow the same design so that the only difference is due to system requirements.
