Doors

I never realized how weirded out I am by a lack of interior doors until I started decorating houses in ESO. Not having doors really bugs me. I wish I could figure a way around this.

There are a few door options. Solitude added two, a very nice looking "normal" one that doesn't fit most doorways and another called "Solitude Gate, wood" that doesn't look as good but flipped upside down fits most spots. You get the blueprints from Western Skyrim dailies.

Then there are a couple achievement furnishing ones (Elsweyr has one) but they're kinda gimmicky.

Thank you. I had no idea. It's got to be better than the wall hanging I put up over the door.

Lol we all started out with Wall Hangings for doors 🤫

I still prefer Curtains for some spots, there are a lot of cool curtain options that look better then just a tapestry you have to go through.

Now that's something I hadn't thought of. Good idea. I'll start digging through the catalogs and see if that's an option for this particular room.

Markarth door, double fits some doorways ok and can be made to fit others with a bit of imagination, both interior and exterior shown. The diagram comes from two of the 3 Markarth dailies as a random reward. You need a few crafting disciplines, blacksmithy the highest. I've gotten the plans three times.

Various materials needed with 7 mundane runes, 3 sprockets and 3 grain solvent likely the most expensive.

The lowest price I have seen for the door itself on guild traders recently is 25 k gold. I suspect a curtain etc will be less costly. If you are in a guild you may be able to get a discount (I have heard that happens).

I mean, I'd like to not have to find a way around things like this. I'd like an archway and door that match my house. The assets are there.

Tell me about it. Try and put interior doors in Alinor Crest Townhouse that doesn't look goofy.

I'm not sure what the thought process was there. Maybe they didn't expect us to want to build structures in the "finished" homes or something. It seems like all of the big floors, stairs, archways, walls, etc. match the big four open free-build properties. Meanwhile my floor looks like a salvaged pallet and I'm eating 20 slots on a staircase made of shelves. A slight departure from your topic but the confusion applies.

It would be nice it structure pieces didn't count toward the total but I know that's pie in the sky.

I think you're right that at first they didn't expect us to build anything. When housing first launched there were very few structural furnishings and they weren't really intended for building anything. We had no stairs and had to sacrifice a lot of furnishing slots to build them from blocks, and the nearest thing to a wall or floor was the wide rough planks.

I have a vague memory that while housing was on the PTS the lack of stairs was discussed and someone from ZOS stated that all houses would include stairs to all their floors as if that solved the issue, but I may be misremembering.

Between that, the invisible walls and ceilings making it difficult to access parts of many houses even if you build a way there and the fact that all the initial houses looked like actual houses I think they didn't consider players using the system for more than buying and decorating a home for their characters and then role-playing living there.

They've gotten a lot better since, adding more of a variety of spaces to decorate and more building pieces like stairs, floors, doorways etc. but doors are one area that's still lacking. Doors in video games are famously difficult to make, but I assume once you've made some it's relatively easy to duplicate them with different artwork to make more.

Well, I hope ZOS continue to consider and offer more options. People are passionate about their housing!
