Current Defense Magsorc Sets?

Hi all, swapped over to PC and got myself a Magsorc started. Been busting my brain trying to find out what are some good defensive set options for it.

Currently I was thinking about running

2p pirate skeleton
5p buffer of the swift
5p (backbar) lich
1p master's lightning

But I am not sure how good buffer of the swift is with magsorc.

All my experience comes mainly from playing HA stamden so I feel like I am fighting in paper armor on this LA magsorc.

Oh how I would but sadly I am on a brand new account so have no DLC or expansions lol. That's honestly why this is so difficult of a decision.

I was considering trying crafty + necropotence and stacking magicka and shields, but from what I have heard investing in armor can give shields more durability now days.

The build I am running in no proc is Amberplasm, Trainee, Domi, Swarm, and Ancient grace.

Most likely, I will be swapping out the domi and swarm for Earthgore. The max mag change to the scaling of the set will make it pretty strong on a mag sorc. And since I can use crit surge for a heal, I can guarantee it will at least always initially proc on myself.

Drop Amberplasm for Bright Throat. This set is just too good imo.

And then I will probably change out one of my jewelry pieces for either Malacath or Torq. But I might even try out snow treaders.

And then keep Ancient Grace and one piece of Trainee.

Although, I saw a build posted yesterday that paired Gaze of Sithis and Permafrost for PVE and it seemed like it could translate fairly well into a PVP build if tweaked right. Even with the health regen nerf. So I may also give that a shot.

I could even see myself going non-mythic even. I at least want to try a mythic build out in the patch. But the tried and true Bright Throat and Alfiq is possible again after the no proc patch. So I may just pair that combo with Earthgore and call it a day.

For magsorc the best defensive ones currently are armor master backbar and gaze of sithis mythic.

Max magicka builds still are the best for magicka sorcerer. Willpower flame staff, crafty on the body. Ancient grace jewelry. That’s where I would start for a new account. I don’t run pets so maybe necro good too

I like spectre's eye backbar, 100% uptime of major evasion, 20% aoe damage reduction.

Huge where most of the damage I get is AOE.

Oooo that's true. Also helpful as a good majority of stamina skills (martial weakness) are AOE.

Dawn breaker, shalks, blastbones, whirling blade just to name a few. Good idea.

Brass and Pariah are meta for magsorc defensive sets. Pirate Skeleton is also very good but situational. Chudan is better in most cases to free up a slot for Defensive Rune, mines, etc.

Gaze of Sithis is a terrible mythic for PvP due to no block or monster set. You're better off with Malacath.

Max magicka build might work in Cyrodiil against noobs but it won't get you far in battlegrounds / IC.

Has something changed with shields while I've been away? It used to be that blocking while shielded didn't reduce the damage that the shield took, it only reduced any that got through the shield. If that's still the case then sithis should be amazing for magsorcs. I also found that using single-piece monster sets for the stats was usually better than a full set for many sorc builds - so not much loss there either.

I'm assuming that with sithis you can still block to stop a cc - but it just stops 0 damage.

The only mythic I use on my sorc is Wild Hunt. Speed causes glitches in the Matrix. Reality is with mag sorc, all you need are max mag sets - which also means you can use heal proc sets scaling off that stat, filling in some gaps in the class.

I’ve tried out 50k Max magicka, 25k+ resists Heavy armor magsorc. The stats really look good on paper. In reality, it sucks. You’ll be out of resources before you know it. The passives from light armor reduces the cost to skills. Yeah slap on heavy armor on a magsorc and look at the tooltip cost on Hardened Ward and Healing ward, super expensive.

Best in slot set for magsorc will always be Crafty, Necro, Bright throat, Ancient Grace. You really don’t need impen traits, just run 7 well fitted. Damage shields, roll dodging, and streaking away is your best defense. The best magsorcs I know roll dodge a lot. With 7 well fitted, roll dodging will cost a tiny amount of stamina. So tiny, you won’t notice it.
