Out of curiosity, how do you guys come to a decision about what price to sell things for? I craft alot for myself, but have not crafted anything to sell because I have no idea how much to sell for..
I use the Guild Store Search add-on to search for prices on stuff I'm looking to sell. If there are already listings, I usually price my listing close to that unless it's clearly excessively high, in which case I'll undercut it by a decent amount. If there's no listing at all, I make an educated guess based on rarity and the list prices of any other similar items. Sadly there's not really a good functional add-on that allows you to retain price histories and determine long-term market values based on average selling price.
Also, keep in mind that average prices and supply/demand for everything can vary significantly between guild stores due to the fractured nature of the economy, so what you may be able to sell in one guild store might never sell in another, and what you get a high price for in one store may only sell for a fraction of that in another.
You could always hang around in zone chat spamming for price checks on everything too. I've seen a lot of that going on lately.
I probably won't give an answer you'll like, but I'm going to add it anyway.
Most of the time, I just sell stuff at the default price that it gives when I post it. If it's an item that doesn't have a vendor value, the default price is usually 1 coin, so it's a net loss for me. Things like that, I don't bother posting for sale. I either just give them to someone asking for it, for free, or I use it myself, or I destroy it.
The moment you call someone stupid, or try to display your opinion as "fact", you lose all credibility.
You won't like my answer either, lol. I find that crafted items just plain don't sell.. to many people craft things and they just aren't rare enough to make any money... the only exception seems to be level 1 items with some desireable trait to research.. I trade research items and that's about it.
People buy things? I am in several trade guilds and I put stuff up, occasionally something will sell, but not often and of course it doesn't tell you in the email what sold.
THe economy is non existent, the closest thing is crafters selling or trading trait equipment. Which is something I have taken advantage of from multiple guilds. I offer up training or infused lvl 2-8 gear and guys will routinely pay 1000gp for it. Other traits not so much.
