U only need 5 or more random pieces. No i did not test this actually, but i did test it for light armor. So the logic chain goes like this:

1) Each armor line has this "Set of 5 or more" passive skill.
2) In the case for light armor its 5 random pieces and easily verifiable.
3) Since the wording/skill tooltip is so similar assuming a different requirement for heavy armor is very unlikely. In fact so unlikely that i don't consider testing it!
