Between "speaking for this community" and inability to type out a single paragraph summarizing, I'm sure this isn't complete B.S.

Summary: one more mom's analyst looks at Steam's game population with it's usual chapter rises and winter holidays falls and the covid spike.

This horse is so dead that even ZOS's writers couldn't bring it back.

Kristofereso for me was one of the guys always positive, still playing and streaming the game and making build videos despite all the issues with the game. And even he is losing the optimism. If things got to him to the point even he is ranting, then it speaks volumes on how bad the game is right now.

Honestly, the only reason I still play this game is because I have don't have a huge amount of time these days.

The game is so stale in pvp, that I can not play for weeks, even months, and pick it up to play for an hour, no issues. Worse case scenario, buy a new set of armour and I'm good to go.

It works for me, but is that a good for the game? No. If someone has more time and they can really get into a new game, they will.

Chapters change NOTHING in this game. 90% of the player base are done with it in two weeks. Then it's just another zone, with nothing to do there.

It honestly hurts to see him losing that optimism because while I didn't agree on some of his builds - his videos was most enthusiastic. He's right, though. Unfortunately I think it's too late. I don't think it's the 'death' of the game, but I'm not going to recommend this game to anyone. Even though I'm on PC, after what we seen on consoles? Nope. I'm here for friends, that's about it.

While i can't agree on methods how people generally analysed if game is dying or not i can agree that zos already lost the battle in a more broad term. People who wanted to stick with the game for years and years to come either moved already or lost any faith in the project and just play as a habit like every single player i know, not because some amazing content is holding them here but communities and nostalgic feelings. Reputation of not trustworthy company is what it is, while a lot people coming to check things out and cash in most people that absolutely would love the game still moving away due to bugs, game not working, endless "balancing" and inability to trust that things will magically change one day after all the broken promises and insane proposals (shields cast times or heavy/light attacks "rebalance" comes to mind here)

Honestly what Chris said in that RANT, is pretty much what most of the Content creators are experiencing. Most of the players are probably only sticking around till something new comes, which actually is around the corner if Amazon doesn't 'T'uck up. Come may next year, this will a total Wasteland.
For patches after patches people have been warning ZOS what needs to be done and still no response from them.
Markarth was a Fiasco and there is no coming back from that if they keep this going on as it is...

If the players of your game can not endorse said game, you may need to change direction. After years of the players telling ZOS they need results on performance, they decide to go the opposite direction, move everything server side, tank performance so much that consoles can no longer run the game, end game players leave in droves, PvP players leave in droves, and the new and casual players are no longer growing at a rate to support the numbers of previous years.

I guess, we told you so!

Losing optimism is just natural way :D

    The cycle of ESO -
    1. pick it up
    2. like it
    3. play it enjoying it
    4. play it hoping for better,
    5. play it waiting on better
    6. play it bitter
7a. Quit and get replaced by 2 newbies starting their own cycle making game look like its growing
7b. Write bitter messages on forum like this one and open game sparingly but often enough all stats would show you as active player yet again making game look like its growing in population.

Any chance of getting a summary without having to watch the video?

Basically he says ESOs time is up and shows how covid boosted the numbers but now player numbers have dropped to the lowest in 4-5 years. Gets into how he is moving to New World and is only still playing because he needs income. He explains how he’ll only stay if drastic changes start to happen to positively effect performance which he doubts. He said if New World comes out( it does look good)before the next dlc he won’t even buy the dlc.

He also talks about how ESO is for a casual gamer who likes the ability to pay for cosmetic and rp instead of players who like to be rewarded for time and effort put into the game. Overall he’s saying ZOS’ lack of care for performance improvements has pushed content creators and real gamers away, and that ESO is in the dying phase(based on steadily reducing player numbers)so it has no real future.

P.S. KristoferESO is my favorite content creator so that sucks to know.

Eso is for casuals, and has been for a very long time, only a fool wouldn't see it(not saying Jack Daniel's one).
The Crown Store is the most important piece of content for ZOS, and they're 100% fine with high turnover.
The game has a ton of content for new casual players to chew through, and plenty of opportunities for them to spend big bucks on the game along the way.
Eso never had even a shred of a competitive style pvp, some of us though battlegrounds would be that, but it turned out to be just the same casual of stuff.

The real sad part is, that there always were some demand for more serious stuff, and the complete lack of division between casual and hardcore pvpers have turned a lot of ppl away from the game.

I agree, proc meta poor performance.. this game was always *** in case of performance, but when it works it was super fun game but now? wtf current meta of hard stam proc tanks or 24/7 mistform spammer with proc sets.. soon pvp will be full of this imagine duel od two mist form proc sets spammers really reasonign to play this game.. decided who get crash first .. in this time not casual lag will help ...

I do not know I am caasual player.. and simply do not understand why they destory this game so hard for what reason.

we have many patches every have problems but they jsut take the worst from dot meta worst from tank meta and put it into the one package...and Zos also start to ban every criticism they really need to be in bad situation since such desperately steps...

they total ignore comunity every pool about pvp meta have between 80-90% vote for do not like this meta... and no response? it is really sad story it start to be simillar epic fail like fallout 76...

To be fair i dont think that many people are just sitting at home doing nothing all day but video games because covid, so im not suprised its gone down. However that doesnt excuse the fact that theres like 0 intrest in this game, and the population is shrinking and servers are crappy.

ZOS doesn't ban any criticism (edit for clarity: as in "they ban only some of it") if forums are any indication. Like, I'm not permabanned yet.
They do get ban those who cannot keep their criticism civil enough, though, or shut down threads when critics and defenders start taking forum PVP too seriously.
In this particular case I don't see anything bannable. Someone is just being, ahem, overly cautious.

Yes, him. Because he 100% owns his studio. There are no investors and board of foolishness to answer too, just a man and a team of passionate people who can do whatever they want.

    and he will never sell.

ESO has had six years and the writing on the wall was there since the day they scrapped the sub model in favour of a crownstore. They're broken most of their promises to the community in favour of turning profit, it's not an insult, just a fact of things.

As long as an MMO (or any company) has investors to answer too, it will always be profit over quality. The only thing I disagree with is Microsofts acquisition of Bethesda, because Microsoft will get a return on their investment or shut the entire thing down and kill off TES franchise all together.

ESO was never ready for release and it's the investors who set the release date. Cyrodiil has been a laggy mess since two months into release.

I dont blame him for losing optimism, I float in and out of ESO because all of the MMOs have their chains yanked by investors.

I don't mean they don't ban at all, I mean they don't ban everything. Sorry, not sure how to phrase that it's not "any criticism" that's shut down, but "some criticism".
And yes, I've seen several peculiar threads go "permission denied" or whatever it says when they "delete" them, but I think it's mostly problematic IRL things that were discussed there or it turned to a really nasty fight.
