Oil pots inside enemy towers. (Oil pots in general)

thefreezingvoid
A common tactic in Cyrodil I see is for a group of people to hide inside a friendly resource tower before it is taken. On the ground floor set up a bunch of bunch of oil pots facing the door, so that when an enemy walks in you can kill them instantly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDTfAOf6yzs is an example

This tactic is quite effective, as it usually means the other alliance either has to keep throwing bodies in on you till they finally kill you, giving you plenty of farm in. Or they have to ignore you, letting you retake the resource back.

The only counter to this is, if the group inside the tower is big enough, is seiging the tower down before the resource is captured, a tiresome and tedious affair. As well as something that is hard to organize with a non-organized group.

I personally believe that firepots should not be able to be used in such a way. Fire pots in general are used in ways other than what they are intended.

Fire pots, in general are supposed to be used to DROP, key word DROP, hot and scalding oil on enemies from ABOVE. They should not be used as a cannon to blast things on the same level of terrain as you.

My proposed solutions are as follows.
-Make fire pots so that your target has to be below you for them to work. Make it so that they can't drop oil targetting the same level of ground as you are standing.
-Add guards inside the bottom level of these towers. Some mages, some menders, and some honor guards too. Certainly won't stop a large group from hiding in there, but might make it harder for a small person group to abuse it in such a way.

The only counter to this: DON'T GO IN THE STUPID TOWER.

Honestly i havent seen this yet, and i cant relly see it being a problem where u can just roll and kill the operators easily or just let them sit there waisting theyr alliance points on pots of oil.

Then you must honestly be blind and/or hardly playing the alliance war.
This is a broken tactic that is used by many many people.

Wow why did they need so many people in the tower, I do this with 2 people all the time but If I had a group that big I would never waste my time in a tower that way when I could do something productive.

If the group is that big inside the tower then just leave them there, that is a lot of enemies wasting there time just sitting inside a tower they don't even own while your guys are out taking all their stuff.

Alternative would be to have a way to scale the tower or some other means of entrance that don't confront the oil pots.

Just don't run into the tower? I don't get the problem here. Does people sitting in the tower stop players from taking the resource? Just ignore them.
  • dahl.lucas_ESO
I see this all the time and while in a group, telling others it's just best to ignore, they all still go into the tower and die only to run back from the castle and DO IT AGAIN! SRS! I guess it will take longer for others to realize this but just don't go in them. It's a real waste of time.

This is so easy to counter.
I tell my guild to count to 3. then follow me inside.
I rush Inside, pop Mist form.

    This is an awesome tactic.

Great example of skilled/intelligent players wiping a mindless zerg, which is what you want.

If you don't want that happening, siege the tower down. Easy.

You can't (effectively) siege a friendly tower.

It's really a fun tactic but only works on the mindless. We have done it some times and have gone against it a few times.

Overall there is no tactical advantage to it.... unless... well I'll keep that too myself as it's really good and I don't want to see it become common place.
