In my opinion there is absolutely no excuse for software this big, with this much money behind it, and this much hype, to release a product which is so unstable that it is causing computers to lock-up, crash, and in my case not even re-start. If you pay 60-90 dollars for a piece of software from a 'professional' software dev company, at the very least you expect it to not damage your computer. Ideally it would actually work. Refund time.

Sounds to me more like there's something else happening here that just happened to trigger when you installed the game.

Nope - Ive never had any problem with any other software or game installed on this PC. Also, I just researched and fixed the problem with my pc not starting and it definitely WAS due to the failed ESO install.

A healthy computer won't get shot down like this.

It absolutely will if critical system files are being messed with. I work in technology and my PC is kept clean, and up-to-date at all times.

If critical system files would be messed with in such a way that a healthy PC would get shot down by the install, there would be a lot more threads about PC's not being able to be restarted than just yours.

Your PC most likely wasn't as clean as you believed.

Every computer I have worked on with issues like this, it is either a hardware or infection problem. But about 80% of time it is adware, trojan problem.

Well let's see. What does that leave for the rest of the 20% of the time?
In any case as I have installed all other manner of games and software on my PC without a hitch, yet one particular piece of software (ESO) didn't work - what am I left to conclude?

You didn't tell us what the fix was.

I have ESO on 5 different systems around the house. Not a single one of them locked up and couldn't restart. Though I have to assume when you say wouldn't restart, you meant Windows couldn't restart and not the system couldn't restart (aka power back on, get past BIOS post..etc..etc)

It's always possible with any software package that you install, that you'll run into something that doesn't install right. Whether it's a bad sector on the drive or anti-viruses chooses to interfere with it. As someone who works in technology, you should know all this.

I haven't heard of any mass problems with ESO corrupting windows systems, though I imagine ZoS probably has better data on the number of corrupted windows installs
