This Tuesday, I was joining a trial group, when the raid leader's group started acting strangely. People weren't getting his invites, he couldn't leave, and I think there may have been some other issues, but eventually after logging out and back in, he was able to disband it. However, when he ultimately disbanded, I was still in the group, and he couldn't invite me. In the screenshot below, you can see the same person leading the group try to invite me to another group.
Once we both realized I was in a ghost group, I couldn't get out of the group. The button to leave group wasn't working. He told me to log out and log back in, which I did several times, and for the first 20 minutes or so, logging back in flipped it back and forth between (a) showing that I'm in a group (which I can't leave) and (b) showing I'm not in any group, but still unable to accept invites because I'm "already in a group".
After an hour or so, the duplicate group wouldn't show up anymore at all, no matter how many times I relogged, but I still couldn't join any groups. If I try to send someone else an invitation, I get the "failed to join group" error shown below, while anyone else inviting me still gets an error that I'm already in a group.
It's still like that today. I tried the following:
- Queue for battlegrounds or dungeons. Queue button doesn't do anything.
- Queue for imperial city - the "Explosion Murder" player in the ghost group was in a different alliance from me. Game still kept me in a cross-alliance party, in a PvP zone, still unable to leave.
- Disband group, change role, toggle vet/normal, etc - couldn't do that when the group was visible because I wasn't leader. Now that the group is fully invisible, I can change those settings, but they don't help and I'm still unable to join any groups.
- Log out, log in, quit game and re-launch, restart computer. No change.
- Flushed DNS and reset my router, no change.
- Repaired game files, no change.
- Disabled all addons, removed them from the addons folder, and rebooted. Still couldn't join any groups.
- A guild member, trying to help, wrote a custom addon for me to force-leave or force-disband a group, using the API. Server gave it an error that I'm "not in a group" so that didn't help either.
Note that this bug has nothing to do with queues, because the group was for a trial. But since this issue started, the queue button has stopped working, so I can't do that anymore either.
I contacted customer support. They said this is a known bug, but they don't have any tools to fix group bugs, and that I should wait until the next patch (whenever that is) keeping an eye out for patch notes in case developers decide to fix it. Assuming that even happens (groups have been buggy for a LONG time), you've banned people from interacting with other players for less time than that, and I did nothing wrong.
This is my main character, with all of the veteran trial clears and most DLC (a few trifectas), and I've been stuck like this for almost a week now. With customer support declining to provide any assistance, there is no relief in sight. I play a support role, not DPS, so it's not like I can solo any of this content as some people do in dungeons. This multi-player game is designed to be played in groups, so it seems odd that an issue like this would be brushed off as inconsequential. I could understand something going wrong on the server for a day or so, then getting fixed by the developers, which has happened a few times before with groups and queues, but this is a lot longer and I'm effectively unable to play the game.
My guild is finally running vMoL hard mode next Saturday as a one-time thing, the last achievement I need for the Dro-m'athra Destroyer title, which I've been working on for months. Now I can't join, and they need to replace me. I spent almost a year working on this character, getting all of the vet trial clears on her, with a particular interest in that particular achievement, and now I have to start over? Is there anything you or your developers can do to manually remove me from this corrupted group instance before that trial? Or ever?
(Edit: Redacted names from support tickets.)
