what is the point of siege only being usable by faction?

Title basically. I know that they want to prevent a different faction from using the ones you placed but I feel like it would still be fun without that restriction.

I remember someone telling me that once upon a time, the cost of siege was different for each faction, or one faction in particular.

I don't know how true this is, but with ZOS, it's certainly within the realm of possibility.

Because siege weapons are coded so that enemy players can destroy them, giving allies the chance to put out the fire or repair them. Also, you know, the effects aren't coded for friendly fire.

There used to be a “bug” that flaming oil cost 600 AP for EP and 800 AP for the other factions. Back when ground oils would damage opponents, pretty powerful back then. 5+ years ago.
