The problem with Veteran content

Basically the title, and as of Veteran 3, the entire experience has been just awful.

Firstly, I was forced to assist a faction that I've been fighting against from the beginning, and in the process betrayed my faction multiple times.
The reason for doing other faction's content is because Meridia asks you to see it from their point of view. Apparently that means I have to actively sabotage my own faction, kill my own faction's troops, give their factional leaders powerful magical items and prevent multiple assassinations of their leaders. Where is the roleplayability in any of this? People claim that it breaks immersion seeing chat bubbles or having various bars on their screen, but this is worse than any of that. What's worse is that it feels like it's just been tacked on the prevent us from complaining about the lack of actual endgame PVE content. The only time you even see that this is the same character that you got from 1 to 50 in your home faction is a few different dialogue options in the very beginning. After that I may as well have been a Dominion solider, they certainly treat you like it, and there is no detail at all on what exactly it is that keeps you from being recognized in enemy faction territory (They just say "a spell"). And how is this not ruining the Soulless One's reputation in his or her home faction? At first, you are helping your home faction's highest levels of government, King Emeric in this case and even bring them back from the dead, but now I'm squashing every effort they are making to end the war. I do not feel like a neutral party trying to understand why the enemy is doing what they're doing, I just feel like a filthy traitor. This combined with numerous lore mistakes just makes in each zone makes me feel like quest developers spent maybe five minutes on some elder scrolls wiki and decided to fill in the blanks with headcanon and the announcement that the first adventure zone will be filled with "original lore" that is "based off of" established Elder Scrolls lore makes me worry for the future.

That's just the lore part of it, and at this point I've just been skipping quest dialogue because I'm tired of groaning. A problem that will effect more of you, since I'm sure most of you don't care at all for lore or roleplaying, is that the quest reward XP is completely underwhelming, I have completed every quest in every veteran zone up to my level and I am still not where I need to be. At the end of Greenshade I should have been V4, I am still halfway through V3. The only way I can complete veteran content is by spamming anchors and delves and trying to find dungeon groups, and now that they've patched the XP rewards for that it has gotten even harder. What happened to play the way you want? ZOS made that one of their main points when they were marketing to us, and this is not at all "the way I want". I do not like dungeons, never have. I'm a PVP player, the only reason I'm even touching this content is because I need to gear up for Cyrodiil. I tried to soldier through it, I searched for groups for dungeons and delves and world bosses, half the time the group breaks up before we even enter the dungeon. As for world boss and delve groups, this is what it is: A bunch of people sprinting across the map because they've aggro'd every mob running directly at bosses and leaving behind anyone who dies. What if I want to group up with some smarter people? Well I can't because I'm stuck in a phase with them with no way out. On a normal MMO I could have chosen who I wanted to play with in server select, with the megaserver I am forced into a phase with people I would never interact with willingly and I cannot escape them. I have seen the same names since I started leveling and the ignore list is starting to get a little too full and these are the people I have to group with because I cannot level off of normal quests in peace.

I'm sure this qualifies as a TL:DR post for most of you, so:
-Quest XP needs a massive boost
-The Lore department needs to do some massive revisions
-Grouping needs a massive overhaul or voluntary phase switches should be implemented

    You are so right!
Evertime I see that stupid ugly wothless "queen" I want to kill her...
Instead I am fighting with her betraying the only not-stupid faction there is.

At least give us the possibility of assasinating her at the end...
I never liked "High"-Elfs as always compared them with nazis and their stupid arian ideology...
I need to kill her! I physically hurts not be able to...

Because I for one have been playing the game and avoiding spoilers. Thanks dude.

You came into a forum that said "may contain spoilers" at your own risk. Not my problem, not my fault. Also, not on my topic.

Except that is not the lore they wrote.
And how is grinding a bunch of separate dungeons any different than grinding a raid?

Um, yeah, it is your topic, or do you not remember starting the thread...

What would be hard about adding the spoiler /spoiler tags? Duh, that makes it your fault.

The title says Veteran Content. If you're not doing veteran content yet then it's a pretty safe assumption that the thread is going to contain spoilers for you.

As a roleplayer, I imagine any actions done in veteranship won't probably be considered IC.
I like the idea of exploring other factions without having to constantly alt around.

If you read it, it isn't "actually happening". This is a look back at what "would have" happened if you'd landed amongst them instead of your initial area.

I think it is the XP from mob kills in the VR content which is in need of a major boost. As of now, it is practically a waste of time and gold/mats to battle mobs in the Veteran ranks.

hey, im as much a fan of the dominion as the next stormcloak, but the queen aint so bad, its the rest of the dominion that sucks so much balls. thalmore are still ***, bosmer are too inwardly focused, khajiit are.....

still wish there were more quests that regard your true alliance, like you steal some plans for emric, or you sabotage an diplomatic situation.

This is why when you read an Elder Scroll you go blind or go mad...Elder Scrolls are never static, they are ever-changing and give hints to all possible pasts, presents, and futures lol.

Yeah. I started to grind a little... Then noticed most kills only give like 40-80 XP.. Looking at having a million XP till, I opted to just go to the next zone underlevelled.

Obviously I am not considering the main quest part of my character's canon. That would just be awful mary sueishness.

I did read it. All it said was that they've given me some sort of spell to disguise myself and then sent me on over.

I'm surprised nobody else mentioned yet the (at least 1) quest which mentions some bad thing about having a soul related to a quest and you going "Oh, no problem, I don't have one!" after you got yours :D

My problem with veteran content is, that i keep finding level 50 recipies, and level 10 mats, for provisioning.
Also, i hate that my character is constantly going "you majesty", but that was kinda my issue in Daggerfall Covenant as well, i am constantly having to be a saint and an ass kisser to the local nobles.
I don't mind so much the actions i am taking, but the motivations that are forced on me and the reverence that my character is forced to have to these people.

Busy Work Scrolls Online. I'm only vet rank 4 and I'm already bored. It would help if the quests and kills awarded way more xp, or if we could efficiently level up in PvP.

I think the devs ran out of ideas for late game content and some moron thought it would be fun to make the player grind to 50 two more times, only these last two times would be as painful as possible. IMO, this is the weakest aspect of the game.

It sounds lazy and limiting to do what the devs did. Normally one would level their toon and get it where they want it. Then they'd roll an alt. More than likely in another faction to see what the other alliance looked like and their story arc. No need to do that in this game. Roll one character, get them to VR10 and you're done with the game. There's no reason to hang out anymore after VR10. You've seen all the PVE content for all 3 alliances. The only think left is Cyro, if you can zone into your home campaign without the infinite loading loop. Talk about short sighted!

It was a joy getting to 50. The moment i hit veteran ranks, i've been bored out of my mind. All that time working for my alliance (DC) was great... and now i feel like i'm a worthless traitor working for the stupid elves. Long boring quest grindfest from VR onwards... sad state of end game.

Not only are veteran rank monster encounters not rewarding, it's frustratingly hard with lag since everything hits like a truck.

Perhaps veteran content is like one of those dreams that Zenimax are so fond of, you know the ones that if you do an emote or use bone armour, you miraculously change back to your regular form :) been reporting that bug since & betas back and still no fix for such a simple thing.

The roleplay implications are rough if you're a loyal agent of your original faction. I see four alternatives:

    - (Mage Archetype) Your primary interest is knowledge or power, whatever the source
    - (Warrior Archetype) You're a mercenary
    - (Thief Archetype) Loyal to nobody, except possibly other thieves
    - (Any) Your meeting with Meridia convinced you the problems of Nirn go beyond petty faction squabbles, and you take her at her word about the need to see the other perspectives

It can work. You can't be stubborn about it, though :)

I like Vet content from a mechanics point of view. It's difficult. That's a refreshing change.
