Vampiric Bat Swarm Fountain

Before I shell out gems for this item, any one know if the bats are locked to the fountain itself, or if you invert the fountain in decorating mode do you get the bat swarm hovering above the inverted base?
Only want to buy this if i can burry it in the ground and still have the bat swarm visible.
