PvP has been really empty (PC NA greymoor) and the forums have been slow too.

I know the elite PvPers are out farming something they want from this new chapter. What is it? Is it the speed ring? Or are you guys just getting the perfected Masters/vMA gear etc?

I don't think it can be the 25% damage ring because no one would give up crit damage in pvp, right?
3 GOs, a Warlord, and bunches of prefects etc-- all classes...I've wasted a lot of time in PVP

All of the above. You can theorycraft all you want but until you take it into Cyro and try it you can never be sure. I'm picking up everything. Got half the mythic items. Did 2 DSA runs today. Heck, even got the new mount while I was at it.

Eh depends. In PVE it's pretty cut in dry that you pretty much don't want to give up crit rating and crit damage unless you have to. In PVP it's not as cut and dry. A lot of builds get their burst from crits, but not all builds have to rely on it. The truth is, when facing someone who stacked crit resistance to the soft cap, chances are that you aint critting *** against them.

So in those cases, if your crits are going to hit the same as white damage anyways because they hit the 50% reduction cap, might as well pump your white damage by another 25% instead.

The question is how often will you be running into people with enough crit resistance to nullify your crit damage modifiers? Well it's still week one of launch, so it's up in the air. I imagine that eventually there will be some sort of balance made where that ring is a soft counter to crit resist stackers, so people will have to then pick whether they stack crit resists, or put those resources to countering other things.

Remember, the ring is only useless if your target has no crit resistances, because at that point you lost out on a ton of potential damage against them. Also, you can still critically heal with the ring on, you just can't do critical damage. The meta for this patch probably won't be sort of set for another few weeks, after everyone tried out their theory crafted builds and decided what actually works and what doesn't.

I would definitely want to try that band out on a WW build myself.

vMA and vDSA, done 30+ of the first, and 12+ of the latter. Spent a few days in Stormhaven tweaking some setups, but I've made my return to Cyrodil.

That Malacaths Brutality ring is actually kinda strong with the right setups tbh. Sacrificing crits is one thing, but look at it like this. A lot of PvP builds have 70-90% crit damage. 50% base, 20ish% from CP, maybe some from racials or passives. So now, with Malacaths is like you have 75% crit damage against somebody with 4000 crit resists, at all times. It negates Impen entirely, making those 7 traits, and points in CP, or impreg/transmutation moot.

So with some setups, it can be really oppressive. I'm sure we'll see more builds develop as time goes on. I've seen a few already that are scary AF

Malacath's band is pretty weak in CP pvp, but slightly more viable in some builds in no cp or battleground content.

Keep in mind malacath's is a damage % increase, which is additive with other forms, including CP % boosters, sword, or class or even ability increases.

It ranges from 15-18% increased effective damage. Now also keep in mind there's a tooltip bug and you'll need to test the actual damage done to be sure of the actual effect.

To make malacath's effective, you need to pull everything you possibly can out of crit and tailor your build around things that boost raw weapon/spell damage, penetration and stats rather than any other % increasers. Khajiit, Templars, and Nightblades (and necros sort of) lose a large amount of their strong class passives and stuff associated with their primary abilities that make malacath underperform more significantly.

Anyway, I feel snow treaders are going to be way more impactful and control the CP meta in pvp than malacath's.
Just like I see thrassian stranglers making imperial city a bunch of meteor spamming deathtraps.

Using malacaths on a high WD stamdk in Nocp. At least what I intended to do, and it deletes most people except tanks, which I generally ignore anyway
