Just a warning re. items disappearing...

Just to say, first, that I put a ticket in for this problem and the item has now reappeared in its original position.

Not sure, yet, if it was wound back by ZOS, or whether it somehow reappeared on its own?

The latter seems somewhat unlikely, as I had already tried reloading previously, to no avail, but still.

Anyway, what happened was that I was in my Sisters of the Sands apartment and my Music Box, Dreams of Yokuda disappeared.

I was moving a nightstand (that had the music box linked to it), to see what it would look like in a different position.

I then removed the music box, so I could place other things on the nightstand, to get a better idea.

As I did this, the game made something approaching the normal sound it makes, when something is removed and placed in your bags.

However, thinking about it, I did notice at the time that the noise sounded slightly off...

...slightly more alarming.

Having done that, I then undid it all again, via the Housing Editor.

That should have meant that the music box was re-linked to the nightstand, before the nightstand was then returned to its original position.

Instead, the music box did not reappear and the nightstand was returned to its original position, but without the music box on it.

I then checked my bags and the music box was not in them, either.

So, it had just disappeared entirely. :scream:

Just wanted to give you all an insight into what happened, as a heads up, so you can keep an eye out for this potential problem when you are decorating.

I once visited my house and found a big chunk of Alinor stairway missing. I couldn't find it anywhere. I looked in the retrieve items tab and it was 1000m away. In this case I assumed it was an EHT bug since it was positioned by EFT and then locked so it couldn't be moved, stopping me from retrieving it. In the end it was quicker to place another item in its place. (Obvious not possible for item like a music box). I have also seen this happen on other houses where items random disappear or move into walls, but again I think this is EHT related.

Yeah, think the lock thing, specifically, must be EHT-related.

As, without EHT, you can always Retrieve items that are still there, even if they are not visible.

Also, items you link can often move, even after you have placed them, with or without EHT active.

Spent the best part of yesterday re-placing stacks of items (dishes and bowls, mainly) that had moved on their own and that I couldn't even move without Retrieving, due to them being inside cabinets. :(

Don't even have EHT active, at the moment, as it was bugging after the last update, so had to deactivate it, temporarily.

So, it's not down to that.

Pretty sure the music box hadn't moved through a wall, though.

I had hit R, to remove it and it hadn't made the usual placement noise it would have normally made, had I accidentally placed it through a wall.

...and even if I had done that, it would have still reversed and placed itself back on the nightstand, when I undid all previous actions.

Which would have included me misplacing it, had I done that, obviously.

No, it was definitely completely gone (or totally invisible!) and even reloading ui didn't bring it back.

It only came back after I made a ticket and then went back to the room, a while later and found it innocently sitting on the nightstand, as it had been originally, as though nothing had happened.

I'm not sure about completely disappearing (neither in the house nor in inventory) furniture, that never happened to me (so far, fingers crossed it stays that way). Sorry to hear it happened to you, it sounds really scary to lose one's hard-earned and even paid-for furniture, but I'm glad it's back now.

Regarding mysteriously moving items and EHT, no, it happens ingame by default too. In another thread I think we identified it as an issue that may have to do with linking, since most people's moved items were linked to something.

For example, I had a Nord altar with 4 Nord Urns on it (each urn linked to the Altar, but not to each other) and one day the urns were nowhere to be found. After panicking, I found all 4 of them in the Retrieve menu all exactly 400 yards away inside the terrain somewhere. Moving them back (from the Retrieve menu rather than stowing them in my inventory and placing them again) they were stilled linked to the Altar.

During testing the linking feature on the PTS (during Summerset I think), I also submitted a bug report because a similar issue happened. I had a few items (goblet, plate, grapes, etc) linked to an Alinor table, and when I moved the table (slightly faster than normal, by clicking it and replacing it quickly), the table moved correctly to the side but the linked items moved further away from it so they were no longer aligned but instead floated in the air halfway into a wall.

So I can't speak for all disappearing furniture issues, but some ghostly moving furniture are caused without any AddOns, possibly by the ingame linking function.

I had to dig for this but I was sure that @R_K had found this issue way back (2018 apparently)

It was likely not Zos replacing the item. They would have sent you a reply to the ticket saying so.

I have had items disappear. The most obvious time is when I transfer them via the banker to use on a different character. I swap to that character and find a piece of the gear missing, return to the first character and it is not there. A couple days later it shows up mysteriously in the bank. I do have an addon that allows me to search the inventory I am looking at so I know I am not accidentally overlooking it.
