Weapon Skill lines for the future

- One-handed weapon (no shield)

Reasoning: A lot of NPCs fight with just a single weapon, our characters should be able to as well without gimping ourselves to Oblivion.

It could have abilities similiar to the one-handed and shield line minus the defensive stuff and taunts. Basically just an option for those who don't want to run around with twin weapons or a shield.

- Crossbow

Reasoning: I know we can have a crossbow animation with silver bolts (fighter's guild ability), but a full line would be nice as another mundane ranged weapon.

Crossbows would be single target as AoE wouldn't make sense. Attack speed would be slower than bows, but greater damage per hit (much like one- and two-handed melee weapons).

- Polearm/Spear

Reasoning: People have wanted it for ages :)

      Some ideas:

      Horseback Archery/Melee

      2 Handed Polearms

      1 Handed Polearms + shield/ 1 handed weapon

      Whips/Chains

      Throwing Daggers/Boomerangs

These would cover most of the major weapon systems.

These would be a nightmare as they require the weapon to be animated in addition to the normal combat animations. It's understandable that they decided against them, even though a morningstar would be nice ;)
      Throwing Daggers/Boomerangs

Agreed, throwing weapons as a skill line would be nice.

Crossbows, if implemented, would most likely share the Archery skill line. Most other skill lines accommodate multiple weapon types after all.

Several skills of the bow skill line wouldn't work for a crossbow though. They could certainly copy some skills over (especially the passives), but the AoE skills wouldn't fit.
The way I'd imagine it would be single target skill line with possibly a knockdown skill added for crowd control (could replace "Volley" or "Arrow Spray" for example).

Mounted archery would be awesome. I loved it in mortal online!

DK Has an ability called Lava Whip that already has whip animations. It's precisely that ability that made me think that there should just be a whip/chain skill line in the first place. I mean, this game already has Vampires and Werewolves. No harm in going full on Castlevania.

Other than that, I can't believe I forgot to add the most obvious Weapon Skill Line:

          Unarmed

Volley and Arrow Spray don't make sense with real bows either. I don't see why it would be any more fantastic with a crossbow.

I would say unarmed or spear/ polearm would be the 1st ones to spring to mind.

Alternatively, I do like katars. :D

If unarmed is implemented it probably won't be actually "unarmed", there will be some kind of fist weapon.

I do think unarmed is the most likely skill line to be implemented. Pole arms are also quite likely but ZOS did mention they implemented Aedric Spear to scratch that itch, so perhaps they don't (at least for now) intend to implement proper pole arms.

1-Handed spear/javelin just as a weapon type would be cool. Polearms could also be different enough from the other 2 handers I think.

I would love to see a full 1-handed skill tree and the option to cast spells while using a 1-hander (no skill tree, just the ability to use a weapon and cast spells with the off hand).

This game really needs more weapon classes. I was really disappointed when unarmed (fist equip-able?) and quarter staves were not implemented. I think it's really generic when people automatically group staves with magic users. Makes me miss the many weapon skills in "Morrowind".
