Opinions on Potentate's Retreat house?

I want to explore it again now that I've rediscovered the controls to dive; I really want to see if there's anything, however little it might be, under the walkway in the pool.

Since I can't seem to find an edit function on here.... now that I'm looking at the page on those controls (one of the various unofficial wikis with a page specifically about "swimming") again, it looks like that's for specific other games in the series. Apparently ESO doesn't have a "dive" function? Pity, the Retreat and similar could've had a lot better aesthetics if swimming underwater was an option.

Loved it when first saw it - especially the water.

But not sure can justify ANOTHER notable house.

Have 2 weeks to visit often & ponder.....

I saw it for the first time yesterday and was astonished at how hideous the “palace” is! I LOVE the Sugar Bowl Suite inn room and the way the light comes in the windows and had been hoping for similar in future Elsweyr houses. Then there was Lucky Cat which has some really nice features but I was disappointed by the windows. Then Jode’s Embrace blew me away with its lovely rock gardens and waterfalls and I was tempted but the exterior not matching the interior, including issues with window placement decided me against it (if I’m going to even consider spending that much, for me, it would need to be perfect). What does this have to do with Pontentate’s Retreat? It feels like they “solved” such issues in the opposite way I would have hoped — Don’t like dingy windows? Fine, no windows at all! :expressionless: I think I dislike everything about the building from it’s odd layout, complete lack of windows, and being overly dilapidated.

Now the waterfall and the cave beyond with all the bioluminescent flora — THAT is gorgeous and I wish I could buy that by itself, ideally add it as an extension to one of my other properties or something! The gazebos and such around the central pool are nice but, like many others, I do not care for the giant green crystals in the lake.

I really like the home in some ways. I like the domed room and it's style but the level of destroyed surface seems a little excessive on the stairs but it does make sense with the region the home is located in and what has happened in the world there and it adds a layer of challenge to make more beautiful something that needs love. I don't really feel the side rooms are big enough personally and again a little too mouldy looking for my personal taste and I'm not as overly fussy as most. I would still buy this home and have been considering it. I like Earth tear cavern, moon sugar meadow and daggerfall overlook a lot too and many other homes not currently on offer that have previously been sold and a lot of the other houses too. I bet some nice options come up in the next chapter also so I am trying to figure out what to do.
The outside, I love it. The sparkly cave is beautiful and I love the shiny, magical looking water and crystals.

Soooooo, if you put the Aeonstone Formation achievement furnishing from Southern Elsweyr by that lake in the middle or slightly in the water, the big crystals glow and will turn on and off with the furnishing. I was not the one who figured this out, I'm just passing along the discovery and I bought the house.

    Not for me.

Too crumbly, too grand, yet too small and simple internally, too limited a layout, spiky green stones in the pool...

Not sure who they are aiming all this at, lately, but it isn't most female decorators.

It's like they picked all the least good options for Elsweyr housing and left what would have been best.

A large, wooden (non-mouldy) house, with 700 slots and a nice view would have been far more, universally, popular than anything they gave us.

One, or more, of those in each of the Elsweyr zones would have been good, in fact.

One of the prettiest parts of Southern Elsweyr is in the North West, in the artists' village of Black Heights - would have been nice to have had a large wooden house there.

Also, speaking of artists, why did we never get Elsweyr paintings?

They're all over that village, yet we can't access them as furnishings.

Might have to make a separate thread...

I personally love it. I made it my guild house with all of the crafting stations. The outer shoreline area of the crater connected to the ocean can be build upon and it goes very far out. Vertically you can also build very high so a lot of options there.

I should add that the furnished version adds a ridiculous amount of housing items. Many are purple, hard to craft, or only available in the crown housing store. Definitely a good space if you put work into it.

Having bought the furnished version, I slowly have begun to make this place my first true home... (Also first time I have been crafting for a house.)

Thus far the place is wonderfull, albeit the 700 item limit seems a bit little for such a large house, currently sitting at 400/700 and havn't really even decorated everything well.

As my experience is near 0, I can only advance with the ideas that I have and pray they work out. But once I am near done I'll gladly provide a better opinion, but thus far? Not disappointed!

I love the pool and the effect on the water when I swim. At last I have a perfect place for my Jester trees. Amazing cave area. A place to put glowing flowers and maybe some corals. The building inside? Well, I don't like the shabby walls and floor. But I almost finished reskinning them, and now I have a neat space to host all things I'm collecting. All my paintings, pottery and achievement furniture fit in perfectly. I tried to place it in my Psijiik Villa - yet I got a strange look, as if I'm just storing everything in a warehouse. But I don't have this feeling in the Potentate's Retreat. I'm happy with this home. Yet I wish it was bigger. Not in terms of slots, but space - more rooms inside.

I was sad that I didn't have the necessary crowns when Jode's was available, but I had enough when this one came to the store, and I really love it! I also love the furniture that came with the furnished version.
I'll start to do something with it after the New Life festival, promised!

I bought it. After it went live, I previewed it and studied it and found no loose rubble. Furnished version does not provide anything I can't already craft myself so I bought the unfurnished version and was pleasantly surprised at the number of nice stone lightposts I don't have to make. The walls are gross and I'll be covering them, which will eat up slots, but I didn't really buy it for the interior anyway. The stairwell, again, is gross and I will cover the walls.

The exterior is beautiful. I love the glowy stuff. I love the cave. I love the view out into the ocean. I do NOT love the slaughterfish so close to the shore, but whatevs, I have a pool to swim in.

It was not until I got it and started furnishing it that I got really excited, and I'm putting this in a spoiler box. If you love surprises and plan to buy this house, do not read this. It made me squeal like a little kid.
If you put in the Aeonstone Formation furnishing that you get from completing the quest "Fall of the Dark Aeon"...IT LIGHTS UP THE POOL CRYSTALS!! You can turn the pool crystals on and off by using the Aeonstone Formation as a switch and it is SO FREAKING COOL-LOOKING.

Why would you spend 100$ when you get a 700 slots house for free, which offers pretty much the same architecture? Granted it does not have the pool, but if you want a big pool/water area, there are better options, like the island or the Grotto

Hmm? Apartments have that many slots?

It's the Hall of the Lunar Champion home that they're referring to.

Very much appreciated. Been running around all over the place since starting and have not focused on one quest line yet, seems like a good motivator.

Personally I love "ruin" houses. They feel more historical and lasting. My favorite house being Pariah's

Potentates looks really good, I like the crystals. However of the Elsweyr notable houses, I prefer Jode's over Potentates

I was really leaning towards making this big purchase and using up most of my crowns - until I got a brand new ginormous 4K TV for Christmas and hooked it up to my PS4 Pro. Both this house and Moonlit Cove look better in regular HD than 4K, what’s up with that??? The colors of everything are either supersaturated blood red or supersaturated, ultraviolet blue. I have the brightness at max and everything else is so dark. This is a huge letdown,. I’ve been reading old posts that it and HDR was not implemented properly on consoles, maybe it was never fixed?

This was a crown store only one. Couldn't buy it for gold.

Some players have reported that if you have enough crowns (13,000 for this one) and contact CS, they might allow you to buy no-longer-available homes, but without any furnishings.

I hope the devs will stop releasing houses which have the courtyard in the back of the house.

This is what I dislike most about this oversized house.

My 2nd issue is with the mouldy walls, and a 3rd problem, which is just a personal preference, I don't like how there are no smaller rooms, such as staff quarters, a kitchen or a basement. The interior is just a big dome resembling the Pantheon in Rome.

I liked it somewhat, but not enough to throw crowns at it. I missed out on jode's embrace and hoping they will add that back in the crown store at a later date. I really want that one.
