Give people more incentive to stay in a BG, not less...

From current patch notes:
Quitting a Battleground before it's over will now result in a 5 minute penalty instead of 20 minutes.

Seriously, plenty of people already quit right away the second they die, get steam rolled, decide during the first minute they can't win , whatever and now your giving them even more incentive to do just that. Most matches already end with less than full teams except for the one that is winning as it is. This is just going to encourage people to quit even more instead of trying to fight it out. Please, we need more incentives to stay for the losing teams, not less.

Now if we could only make it so you lose MMR by losing and/or leaving the BG that would be Amazing, because I would leave so many game willingly (lower MMR = shorter queues  )

I suspect that the lowered quit time is due to ZOS' inability to ensure equal numbers between the BG teams or that matches are starting properly. I'd expect them to revert it if/when they fix their BG groupfinder.

It may indeed temporarily encourage rage-quitting from losing matches, but again, I suspect its aimed at reducing ragequitting from ESO after getting hit with a 20-minute penalty after leaving a non-starting or hilariously unbalanced game.

This is a (much appreciated) band aid fix to the problems arising from the inability to implement proper team sizes and MMR. If they could fix these two core issues, then this penalty fix wouldn't likely be necessary.

Let them quit. It’s always the worst player who does and are usually replaced with someone better.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

Spent awhile searching for this thread so as to not make a duplicate.

@ZOS there is simply no incentive to stay in a BG you think you will lose. Most players are simply not intelligent enough to realize that quitting matches early plays into the very issues they will whine about in the next BG. There MUST be a penalty for leaving a BG early. 5 minutes is a bio break, not a penalty.

Others have said it, BGs are a mess in general, so I won't harp on those issues. Right now, the penalty thing is the most harmful thing happening in BGs.

I've been queuing for randoms daily since the penalty change. Over 80% of matches end without 3 teams of 4. Please take some time to fix this. So frustrate, much disappoint.

Right now it's more of a penalty to stay in a match when it's 1v4v4. That's not competitive nor fun.

They can't fix that issue so they threw us a bone by letting players get away with a minor deserter penalty.

My guess is that the deserter penalty will be adjusted again in the future when...I mean if...they ever fix the queue.

Maybe. My experiences over the last few weeks have been teams of 3 or 4 queued (rarely 2) and then people indiscriminately leave. Even teams of 4 drop to 2 or 1. The easiest fix for that is an actual penalty.

Yea, you’re right. I was going off memory about how it used to work, players who dropped were usually replaced by higher MMR better players.

Now they aren’t replaced at all. As much as people complain about BG queuing, it looks like they are playing with it... I hope. Otherwise small changes they’re doing is breaking random things because the code’s a mess.

ZoS is just hoping people stop playing BGs so they can stop dealing with it.

Yep. They don't realize that fixing Cyrodiil and BGs is the future of their game. Fix PVP and the rest of the game could go to *** and the game would prosper. Look at any game with a thriving PVP community. Is it casuals or PVE-ers supporting the game? Noop.

I think they sorta do realize it, but it’s a matter of competence and resources.

I hope they do. Someone needs to realize that the smart allocation for those resources is PVP and performance. New raids make temporary jumps in numbers, but PVP is the real forward-thinking play.

The lowered penalty is a stop-gap measure for the broken queues they still can't fix.
Wait for BGs to be fixed (if ever) and then revisit the leaver penalty.

I stopped bothering to try to BGs for roughly a month now because of the brokenness, and the subsequent asinine and undeserved "punishment" for leaving broken matches. With it only being 5 minutes now, I might consider actually coming back. Let it be for now.
