Same problem here. The only thing its telling me to do is to 'use consultant report' option.

Im starting to lose faith in this companies ability to properly address and handle issues from its playerbase.

I just initiated a call back from Customer Service. If they dont call me back like they claim they would. Ill be making sure to unsub at the end of this month. I can deal with bugs. I will not deal with lackluster CS and lack of reasonable options to repair/fix login issues.

stop belly aching, this sense of entitlement that people have is just cancer!

I had the same error, try to run the repair tool a few times and restart the launcher after each repair, I did that three times until it said play and not repair on the game launch button.

    good luck

I also did this and the first time i quit for supper and went to go back in i am having the same issue
... ten minutes later: i had tried to install the EU server to play if i was on when the server went down for NA, i went into my files and deleted my EU folder and launcher worked right away, if that was the issue that seems to have fixed it

had this problem.. reset, uninstalled/reinstalled nuked everything in my windows user directory before hand. Nothing.

Fixed it when I skipped the game launcher icon. Just go to your games install directory.. <whatever drive)/program files (x86)/elder scrolls online/game/client

In this folder there is a file called ESO (the actual game executable). Try opening this it should work. If it does just make a shortcut to that on your desktop or whatever suits you.

+1 on the issue being with the Launcher, just use ESO instead of Launcher and it should work

+1 on the executable in the game directory.

This is only a workaround, however. We still need this to be properly addressed. While the support page has a "fix", I think expecting us to uninstall and redownload the entire 30GB client is unacceptable.

    Please fix.

As to the sense of entitlement, we are paying for a service. That service should work or the provider needs to make a reasonable effort towards providing a fix. I don't think that's entitlement at all.

That said, one expects some hiccups in a new launch. We need to have some patience. It's an awesome game so let's give it a chance.

Last night, I must have repaired three times, sometimes from the button on the bottom right of the launcher, sometimes from the 'options' widget design above the news feed.

    Finally worked.

This morning, same error, and had to repair about half a dozen times. Can log in now. This is bothersome.

Check your debug log. Only odd thing I found in there is that launcher.bethesda.net is not responding to pings. ICMP could be disabled. But they also test for patcher.elderscrollsonline.com which does respond. Why disable ICMP on one and not the other, why test for it? Maybe there are some routing issues or other issues preventing connection to launcher.bethesda.net. Perhaps that is why the launcher cant verify the currently installed version, not that you have something wrong with the currently installed version. Can someone else verify (failure and success)?

**Update** Routes changing frequently, sometimes I'll hit the US, sometimes EU. one end point is definitely AWS (hit EU west a few times). Props on implementing global load balancing, but something is definitely going awry here, shouldn't be bouncing this much, also should for the most part keep me geographically close. The fact that I'm being routed to the EU so frequently indicates an issue. Is it an issue causing this error? Can't say. Is it an issue? Kinda. There is definitely room for optimization here.

@Nordak : But you're in the game now, right? If it takes you more than 5 minutes to get into the game, you are doing it wrong.

The less-work way to do it for most people is just to close and open the launcher until you update and are allowed to play. The problem will come back, just repeat when you need to play again.

The more-work but less likely to have a repeat is to do the hosts file update. Search will find a ton of talk about that.

Eventually, the problem will mysteriously vanish.

I was having this error too, and I tried to reinstall the game and that didn't work. I found another fix. Go to your ESO folder and delete every file with the extension .version There were 4 of them. Then the game will redownload. It still said bad version so instead of hitting repair or anything I immediately closed the launcher and restarted my comp, and now it appears to be working.

(I did all this because of everyone elses different ways they fixed it, and this worked for me.)
