Yes, it was a stupid move to start this event despite the server problems.
But with the number of events this season, nobody will starve or suffer other harm due to one event being cancelled, either temporarily or permanently.
They admitted their mistake by cancelling the event. That's the first step to finding and implementing a solution.
Now, they need time to develop a good solution instead of a quick fix that'll break soon again anyhow.

In your opinion, how many years does a major game studio need to figure out a group finder that finds 4 people to run a dungeon?
