Nightblade - Mark Target

Hey All, I'm getting close to being able to use this skill...but before I unlock it, I wanted to learn some.

Biggest question is - If you're sneaking, and you mark a target, is that consider an attack? to the point where the creature comes and attacks you?

My thought here is to sneak, mark a target, sneak up behind it, and either snipe or veiled strike.

Thanks in advance!

No, Mark Target is not counted as an attack, you will remain stealthed after using it.
Armor debuff on enemy currently doesn't work. The "get health on target's death"-part works. Someone posted on these forums that the "Reaper's Mark" morph does work completely though. Will give it a try as soon as I got some skill points to spare.

Mark Target does not count as an attack, meaning you can mark the target and they will not turn and run towards you.

You come out of stealth for a second, it shows you as detected. But you will restealth as quickly if no one sees and attacks you. You do not stay fully stealthed.

Sorry, need to rephrase what I meant. When you use Mark Target on an enemy, it isn't counted as a hostile move aka the enemy won't come running at you like you attacked it.

It works.. you do more damage to the target with it than without it..
I don't understand why people don't test stuff before talking..

The damage increase on PVE is small, but same with all the other armor reduction skills..
The only answer i can figure from this is that mobs have low defense..
and since the armor reductions are % based.. the reduction itself is low and the damage boost will be small..
but the skill DOES reduce their armor, or makes your attacks ignore 75% of their armor..

I tested it, and it does absolutely nothing to increase your damage.

I tested it in both PvE and PvP. It is absolutely without a doubt NOT working.

If the server comes back any time soon.. ill upload a video showing damage increase..
do you guys use any combat addons to check on your damage??
or you'all just.. check the target healthbar?

I think Mark Target is designed mainly a pvp skill. I've come to the conclusion that mobs in pve have ridiculously little armor/magic resistance to begin with. My light attack damage on a boss in a equal lvl group dungeon is about the same as it is on a regular mob out in the open world.

My personal testing with a bow using light attacks has shown a damage increase of 5-10% with Marked Target in pve. Its definitely doing SOMETHING but just not a whole lot to be excited about in pve.

Also, another reason why people might be thinking that Mark Target doesn't work is that a lot of other classes have armor/magic resistance reducing abilities as well (some of them being aoe). Its possible that the mob you are fighting with other people has already had its armor/magic resistance brought down to nothing and thus your Mark Target is adding nothing to the equation.

    Exactly my point..
PVE mobs either have really low armor..
or the damage mitigation from armor/resistance is really low thus armor reduction skills mean very little increase on damage..

I tested it with an addon.

I would shoot a target to about 50% HP using only light attacks, then Mark Target, and finish them off. I'd then compare the numbers.

Actually, Mark Target damage averaged out to be LESS than when they weren't marked, but it was such a miniscule amount, it was because of the RNG factor.

I would love to see a video that proves it's working. Because all of my tests showed that with 100% certainty, it was doing nothing in those cases. So if it's working for you, then it could possibly just be bugged against the targets I tested it on (Players, and certain NPC's.).

There's no RNG in this game since weapons have no Min-Max damage.. they only have 1 damage number.. :s
the only "RNG" would be the range between <Light attack to Fully Charged Attack> depending on how long u charge it..
Which isn't really a RNG itself because every attack has a set value.. light attacks.. partial charge attacks.. fully charge attacks.. skills.. etc etc..

Testing in this game is easier than in most games due to this fact.. lol

Did you only test on one mob? If you did then maybe that mob doesn't have armor to be reduced maybe it only has spell resistance or vice versa.

PvE mobs seem to have little (and I am pretty sure some have 0) armor and spell resist. Like the casters I am pretty sure have 0 armor so if you mark a caster and only use light attacks... you won't do any extra damage.

I am pretty sure the tankiest ones are the ones that are called "Defenders" etc and show in heavy armor. I would try it against those and post the numbers.

Either there is a slight amount of RNG, or some other minimal factor affecting my tests - Because my damage numbers are not exactly the same each time. But the differences I saw with damage, that I chalked up to RNG, were extremely minimal (<5%), and had nothing to do with Mark Target (Especially seeing as my damage total was slightly LESS with Mark Target. But this could be because of my bow range passive. But I also tested with 2H to get a better sampling, and my conclusions with it were the same - I saw no damage increase from mark target.)

I tested it against various types of NPC's, but admittedly all my testing was done in Cyrodiil (At VR1), which may or may not be a factor.

Also note, that the "tank" NPC's, were the ones I especially used for testing.

    Here's the video..
you can see how all the light attacks have the same damage value..
and how they all get an increase of about 10% damage after using Mark Target.. probably due to low armor of the target..

EVEN the weapon enchantments get damage increase..

    http://youtu.be/ht9RWTyCDAo

Tested with different kind of weapons just so you could see the values are static and if there's any chance is probably because of more or less pressure on the mouse click for the attack..

its still uploading.. but that's the link..

Yeah, someone else tested it and said they saw about the same results. My guess is they stealth fixed it, since I tested it.

I will test it once I get home today (on players, especially.).
