DC is awesome however zone chat sucks and filled with trolls. when someone asks for help pple ignore you, then you have to type in CAPS Lock to get any attention. However after you do they *** bc your typing in all caps and call you a troll
It gets better on the higher level zones, trolls usually stop playing before they get that far. It also gets MUCH better after the first free month, when people who decided they don't like the game stop spamming the zone chats about it.
The best thing to do in any MMO: Turn Zonechat off unless you feel like you really need it for something. You will be surprised how much it feels like playing a much higher quality game by just doing that small thing.
If you need help (with finding stuff in quest or gamemechanics) you're usually far better off in the forums or using google.
I have to say though - we have some of the worst zone chat that I have ever seen. Lack of separate Trade Chat channel or "players helping players" channel compounds this . Really need some better communications tools and options
I get alot of good info from zone chat, or did in the early days and in beta. to be honest i havent been following it so much since the gold spammers made me leave the text size so small that its hard to glance and read to keep up.
Mama always said the fastest way to a man's heart is through his chest.
Beta zone chat was pretty darned funny at times, and had a good sense of shared community, especially in the very first betas when nobody knew what in blazes was going on. Right now it's a little naff in the big cities but I've found the starting zones pretty enjoyable, and DC at least seems to be making an effort to help confused players out.
I dunno what you could possibly be needing help on so badly that you resort to typing in all caps, though - none of the quests I've done are particularly complicated, and if you're doing group stuff where you actually need a whole group and not just the anonymous help of whoever's nearby then you should really go join a guild, not spam zone chat.
ahh....the zone chat. I gnome it most of the time, but I do sometimes get useful info off of it. I also sometimes amuse myself by arguing with the trolls in zone chat.
OP, the answer is, zone chat sucks because there is no way to control what people say. Some people just do not think like a "normal" person. Others amuse themselves by trolling. I usually just add the really annoying people to my ignore list.
It would be a lot better if the ESO client automatically converted linked items to YOUR LANGUAGE - I know it can do it because if you click on the gibberish links it show English text
<insert your concept of gibberish where appropriate>
P.S. or even better use a modern idea and use a google translator option for all zone text from fr->en de->en etc:¬)
It just seems really bad because this game takes a little longer than most mmos to levelup. It also makes it worse if you are like me and reroll a couple times.
