Ambush / Skirmish Kills & Trying to Sneak

So I am loving the small fights and skirmishes at the hot spots like the bridges, gates, and Scroll gates. One thing I haven't figured out is how the game figures how long it takes for you to become hidden after a player kill. Sometimes I kill an enemy and it will let me go right into sneak 2 seconds later. Other times it wont let me go into sneak for about 30 seconds (eye stays open even if I run away from the enemies). Does anyone know what causes this or the mechanics? Does it depend on if other enemy players see you at a distance or does it depend on if you used daggers vs a bow?

I really like picking enemys off from a group or zerg but if it doesn't let me get back into sneak within 10 seconds I cant survive.

any knowledge of how it works would be appreciated.
Thanks

In my experience the game checks to verify if all enemy participants in the encounter are dead.

When encountering a single player or small group in the wilderness, the game seems to see all enemies as dead and quickly return you to stealth.

When NPCs begin to get involved... wolves, bandits, undead, guards, etc... the system seems to switch to the duration of the alert before allowing the player to return to stealth.

Around flags/resources... it could take up to 30 seconds. If the NPCs cast a kind of siege buff, or personal buff on themselves... it can sometimes last for the duration of the buff. There does seem to be a bug that keeps the NPC locked in an alert state because you are too close to break their attention, but too far to trigger them going after you.

If the NPCs gain a target on another player and lose track of you... then it seems to allow you to return to stealth. I've had this happen around flags and resources... but not in keeps.

Wolves as well do something similar where they see me, but another player gets closer before the wolf decides to attack. I break stealth, but when the wolf chases the new player I'm allowed to go back into stealth.

Hmmm, So if you try to snipe someone standing in a zerg and I drop them. and no one around him does anything in time.... will it let me go into stealth right away or are they part of the encounter.... maybe only if someone heals him..
In DAOC you had to wait 10 seconds to stealth so u could run in the opposite direction and stealth usually before they caught you.

Yeah, from my experience, you are stuck out of stealth if someone is alive who had engaged you.

So if you kill someone quickly before anyone responds, you can get right back into stealth.

NPCs will also do it to you.

Or even party members, which is where stealth really gets annoying, for me.

If someone in your group engages an NPC, you gotta wait the 30 seconds or so.
