Open Set Crafting

Spell crafting is not going to happen. The skills are carefully placed in skill trees. However what would be so great is open Set Crafting. Requirement 9 traits for the item or maybe even 9 traits learned for every item possible.
You can select yourself the 2 to 5 set piece bonus. This would allow for some very cool theory crafting and gives much control to the users. It would be an amazing feature. The trade off would be off course that items bonus are a bit lower/weaker than traditional sets but would open all options to build to your desire.
I think should be on the roadmap for improvements. What do you think?

✭✭I see two alternatives.
Sets crafted this way are underpowered, and nobody uses it.
There's a sweet spot that makes all the existing crafted sets useless, and nobody uses anything else.
I don't think either outcome is desirable.1 -
