MagDK - lose spammable in rotation?

Just a quick one I'm gonna throw out there and hopefully get this tested later when I get home.

Thinking of replacing Molten Whip for Flame Clench on the front bar, dropping a spammable all-together, it's expensive but leaves a DoT and is then cheaper than 2 or 3 whips. Pile Therma up to 75 and see what I get.

    You're talking about PvP or PvE? I can't say about PvP, but in PvE rotation, but if you're struggling with sustain, you can try using Embers as your spammable. It was first discovered for stamina morph - the Claw - that strong initial hit makes for a good spammable, but later people found that it works for Embers as well - just spam a few times and then leave it ticking.

    Not worth it.

    a fully dot orented build doesnt work on magDK (PVE) due to the longe duration of Eruption....ending up in 7 Dots skills with each having atleast a 8second Duration (most are 10sec or longer!)
    you will end up with 4-5sec wasted each rotation, which would be better used with a spammable than by doin nothing.

    Re: Eruption, I usually recast eruption every other rotation, had thought of Clench because it has a nice initial hit and then leaves a DoT.

    It's not so much the sustain I'm struggling with it's getting the whips in and then having time to return to the blockade bar within an 8 second window. I thought if clench was used, I could cast Eruption every rote before and then after blockade alternatively at both Eruption and Clench have direct hit's before leaving the DoT.

    Nearly every skill hast a Initialdmg before dealting DOT dmg, few exeptions are hail or blockade.

    you will end up with spare time in your rotation -> spare time = DMG loss

    Embers 10 sec
    Engulfing 10 sec
    Blockade 8 sec
    Eruption 18 sec
    FoO 15 sec
    Trap 12/13 Sec
    clench 8 sec

    the different durations will:
    A ) make the rota a pain
    B ) leave spare time inbetween certain reapplications
    C ) Cause you to loose dmg

    Go ahead, give it a try and see for yourself ;)

    @Fluke.Slywalker , wait for it, whip is getting reworked to an extent in the upcoming Elsweyr update, preliminary notes should be out this week or early next one. Nothing is set in stone yet but maybe handling the whip will get easier. And again, you can try Embers as spammable.

    One other issue with Clench in PvE is that it's a knockback. In a dungeon, when you see a tank trying to shoot a chain towards a mob you've just knocked back and made CC-immune with Clench, you know that the tank isn't thinking anything good about you. ^^ (That's not to say Clench isn't ever useful, knocking dwarven spheres off the platform in vFV final boss fight is crazy fun. ^^ But it's a situational thing.)

    I have a Magblade which I'm very happy with, but I think the DK is a lot of fun, it's the first toon I made, my main and in recent months I've started to work it form a crafter into a DD, 37k atm and climbing :)

    Right guys well thanks a lot for the feedback, I'll definitely try using the Embers as spam tonight and see if that's any better.

    It seems much harder on a DK to get all the way through the rote and back to Blockade before it drops, dunno why but I'll get there.

    I don't see a replacement for it and I suggest working on magicka recovery instead.

    Keep whip. POWERLASH HEALS! FLAMELASH AS A SPAMMABLE KILLS the vast majority of things you kill.

    You’d swap whip for CLENCH? Don’t run that...

    OFFTOPIC: dude this comment... it's just so ugly and not constructive... shame on you, I understand MagDK's are not what they were in the past however they are still charming and awesome at what they do.

    ONTOPIC: Whip is the essence of MagDK there is no better spammable for us unless you wanna try 5-5-asylum staff build instead of skoria/zaan helmets and use forcer pulse, or u can use typical setup and try going psijic way but I tell you enemies and players love it when we whip them ;) Besides our other skills got rather same range so you would lose some dps if you decided to go range we are kinda melee magicians after all.
