The gates

What's the use of the gates, when they open just before a large group of enemies are passing through? I was in the gate of Mnem when it opened just a minute before a group of 20 DC rode through to go steal the elder scroll. So if the gates aren't there to block (large groups of) enemies, what are they there for?

I think they're there to pass out free cookies to all the enemies coming to raid your lands.Since everyone seems to be doing this,

✭✭✭✭✭So you know that you have to loose two of your tri-keeps (the middle one and the one closest to the gate) to make the gate open, right? It's completely impassible for an enemy unless both tri-keeps are taken.2 -

Until now, I didn't know that, so thanks for the knowledge. But not weird that DC was marching in and out, I think I was the only AD on the server.So you know that you have to loose two of your tri-keeps (the middle one and the one closest to the gate) to make the gate open, right?
Edit2: has someone told the good people of Tamriel that it is highly unusual that you open your gates when the enemy has two of your three keeps? It's not very strategical.Edited by Ageless on 23 January 2019 21:49Jord.
