What is AP even for?

So I’m generally curious. What is it used for? I noticed that in the Daily rewards there’s a ton of AP throughout the month, but I have more AP than Tel Var stones. If there was a way to give AP to someone or trade it for TV stones I would, or give half away and trade half because I’m actually more interested in getting the polymorphs in Cyrodil.

Anyways uuuh yeah. Not that I don’t like the free AP, it’s just that I dislike having a ton of it in my bank.

It's the PVP currency. AP earned can increase your Alliance War rank (which also grants a skill point each rank), and be used to buy things like pvp-themed motifs, weapons, armor, ect. Also saving up enough can give you allowance to spend at the Golden Vendor that appears every weekend starting at 8pm server time on Fridays.
Like tel-var it cannot be directly traded to players but instead exchanged for tradable items.

Edit: Pretty much what Beardimus said. Except a word of caution for the Golden Vendor - not every piece of jewelry she sells can be traded. Keep an eye out for how they bind to your character.

Buy Cyrodiil motif pages with AP and sell said pages for gold.

AP is the currency of PVP. You can buy stuff with it.

Every keep has a siege merchant you can buy siege from, wall repairs, Rams, soul gems.

You can open bags of the Cyro sets

Buy monster helms with each weekend from the Golden, she sells golden jewelry too, can sell that for gold top if it's BOE.

You can buy motifs with it and sell for gold. Etc

There is no way to directly trade AP for Tel Var. However, you can buy or trade the runeboxes containing the polymorphs for gold.

Health/Stamina/Magicka pots. Very cheap good to have a stack of 100. They are better than the ones that drop in dungeons. Otherwise siege weapons and if it is a good week golden vendor helmet.

I'd actually be fine with trading AP for Tel Var so I can buy more alchemy satchels to keep PvPing instead of constantly wandering the nearly dead districts for some Tel Var.

It definitely has some use as a currency. If you are patient with the golden, once in a while there are sets that are worth buying, holding for a bit, and selling. The real reason most PVP players care about AP is because that is how you get those fancy symbols next to your name. Haha.
