Did you talk to NPCs who do not have a "Quest" marker above their head?

Yes, all the time. I want to see what they all have to say.

Sometimes, very rarely I might think of checking what one of these NPCs might say.

No, I have never checked what a NPC without a "Quest" marker would have to say, why would I do that? Please tell me in comments why.

It needed a vote for: Often but not always.

    Aah! Didn't think of that!

But I think first option still covers "often " well.

Sometimes when you listen in on a couple of NPC's talking, they will turn to you for help. It's not a quest, but you can get exp for lighting a campfire because neither of them will do it.
Why not? Something has to work. Once, I dug a pit and filled it with clouds. Or was it clowns? Doesn't matter. It didn't slow him down. To be honest, it wasn't the best idea. And it really began to smell. Must have been clowns. Clouds don't smell bad. They taste of butter! And tears. - Sheogorath

Oh that's cool, I'll be keeping alert for that sort interaction now!

I discover so many story side plots by talking to many random NPCs, some of them just don't have a single sentence, some start a mini conversation. Some of the things I've discovered without going into too much detail , discovered an Orc romance , or crush. A gay sailor who is totally in love with Jakarn. One NPC gave me a new map location, one started a quest, and quite a few said some hilarious stuff. Or some touching stuff...

Sometimes I check. I also really want to read the Lore everywhere but there is so much you'd still be level 1 for the rest of the year >.<
Though I do plan to one day go back and talk to everyone and find and read as much as I can :grinning:

I get to listen to obnoxious, uninteresting real people for the better part of my day. Why would I want to listen to virtual ones?

True, that too! The game rewards you for exploring, part of that exploration is talking to the locals. And also talking to your various group of characters involved in quests you are doing too.
