On crafting & looting - recipes and displaying

Simply put: do you think that when hovering over an ingredient (I'm mostly thinking about Provisioning here), that it should display what, if any, recipes you have that it can be used in?

I've frequently found that I've looted lots and lots of useless things that I don't really know if I have recipes for it or not (speaking of which, can you even view recipes somewhere?) and that is quite annoying. Since most ingredients (from what I've seen) don't actually come in a lot of different recipes, it should be doable to display that.

What d'ya guys think?

This could easily be done with a mod. Just wait a couple of weeks and there's most likely going to be something like that out there.

Good point, I didn't really think about that. Still... :P

nah, I don't think it's really needed apart from an interest point of view - most of that information will be on a wowhead type site in the not-too-distant future anyway, I would imagine.

If you have learned a recipe that the item can be used in, that would be nice. Mouse over alchemy ingredients will show what potions they can make, after you discover the properties.

I would be against it if you didnt already know the recipe though, because that just wouldnt make any sense.

Yeah, naturally it would only apply on recipes you know... it displaying recipes you don't know would be kinda... useless. :p
And I dunno, kinda feel like it could be something I think should be in the actual game, it's annoying if you get dependant on too many UI mods... they tend to break with updates too.

Would like to see a small indicator like an icon, but only when you have it in your inventory already.

I'm ok with how the ingredients are displayed now. It tells you which crafting skill the ingredient is used by, which is enough in my opinion. Once you start heavily crafting in a profession, you get to know which ingredients are needed pretty quickly.

One thing I do wish was added though is when I hover over a piece of armor or weapon with a trait, having it tell me if I have already researched that trait for that particular type of item. It gets annoying having to go dig around in the crafting interface looking at each item type and scrolling through all the traits in order to see what I have already researched.

I don't like to be flooded with information, finding things out myself is a lot more fun. Right now I know that ore can be used for this, that those little worms can be used for good fish and that specific flowers make good potions.

Yes it could be made easier so that you see exactly on pick up what you can do with it, but somehow it would break the immersion in my opinion. After all a flower you pick doesn't tell you either if it tastes good with chicken or boar. :D

The alchemy and enchanting are fine. Once you learn what each flower or rune does, it tells you.

I could see possibly making provisioning items have a symbol in their description to let you know that you DO have a recipe for that item, so I could tell when I pick up the food item if I have a recipe I could use them with. Otherwise, the system is fine.

I think the lootable items now say that it is a food crafting item, and that is sufficient for me. However, what would be helpful would be a recipe book that we can bring up that displays each item we can make along with the ingredients, type of and number.

I LOVE that idea! That's something I would like to see

You can just go to a cooking station and uncheck the box that says "Have Materials" to see all your recipes, and you can hover your mouse over them to see what ingredients they need. I personally think it would be too troublesome to have all applicable recipes listed under a single ingredient, as it'd be far too much text and, for me at least, my brain would explode.

Ok, this suggestion is probably more realistic than mine. It would work for me as well, just as long as there would be ANY indicator of whether I have a recipe for the damn ingredient or not (only for Provisioning, it's not an issue for Alchemy or so).

Other: Make the item text red if you aren't able to use it.
