What's the strangest dungeon experience you've ever had?

Just had the bizarre experience of running a vet dungeon with a DK tank (wearing a full set of Ebon, I want to emphasize) who merely spammed 2H heavy attacks and occasionally fired off lava whip and hardened armour. No taunting of bosses whatsoever, no crowd control whatsoever. At first I thought, well, maybe the guy doesn't have a sword and shield equipped... but no, I noticed him weapon-swapping exactly once, and he did in fact have a sword and shield equipped! We finished the dungeon with few issues and no deaths, as I'm good at keeping myself alive and we had a great healer in the group, but... still. It's like the guy thought that wearing Ebon would automatically make him a tank. All I could think was that he'd either copied and pasted a build he found online without taking the time to understand it, or it was someone's kid playing on their parent's account. Either way, it was a bit of a head-scratcher.

What has been YOUR strangest dungeon experience?

Just last night, I qued as dps for a normal random. Upon entering, two members were offline. None of the bosses had been killed, and there was only a level 10 dps running in the wrong direction. Asked if they were coming back, he went afk.

    I had to leave.

There was also the cp 90 khajiit sorcerer with a lightning staff and bow recently. Tank and I carried him through vcoa.

Strangest thing that has happened to me in dungeon? Probably the one time when i were tanking fungal grotto 1 and mob hit me with attack that had knockback and that hit made me float in through the map..

Last year, I had a bizarre glitch in a dungeon where my healer was frozen solid like a statue in a pose where her hands were covering her face, like a weeping angel from Dr. Who. It happened during a fight with a gargoyle boss (forget which dungeon). I could still make her walk, only instead of seeing the walking animation, she just slid along the ground, still frozen. I discovered I could still attack in this state (the spells/skills still worked), but since I couldn't see the animations for them, it was really tricky.

Not sure if this was caused by an add-on or not. :/

Soon after release, first dungeon I ever ran - Banished Cells. This was before scaling and before dungeon finder. Picked up three others that were hanging around the entrance. One was a high level character (don't remember how high - but recall, no scaling, and this is the lowest level dungeon of AD), and she would basically just follow the rest of us around and wait for us to start a fight, and then wham, bam, thank you ma'am! Everything was immediately dead! Each time I was like what the hell just happened? I didn't even know what she did, as I was just getting started in the game on my first character and had experience with very few skills.

Not sure if its the strangest experience ever, but I have been Feared through the wall multiple times in vCOH2 by the Chamber Guardian, third boss. You then are essentially stuck right next to the wall, on the outside of the crypt looking in, and can't really walk but can look in all directions, and rotate the toon.

Thankfully, traveling to a group member usually fixes it, but while outside there's some funky looking scenery to consider. Not to mention the fact that all attacks can still hit you through the wall, and any aggro will carry through it.

Most recent experience. vCoH2, the chamber guardian feared a group member into the wall. This isn't really all that rare or uncommon, but this time the boss feared the tank into the wall and then followed him in too. The rest of us still beat the boss, but we had to wait for the tank to die and the boss to come out.

I had a tank recently who only used his fists - no weapons equipped in a Vet dungeon (I was healing, it was a nightmare). We made it to Drodda but couldn’t get passed her and it had taken probably an hour to get there. In hindsight we should have kicked him. It was a frustrating experience.

Actually the other night. I'm rolling a new healer and after dropping into the dungeon I realized I forgot to go from DPS to healer in the queue. Right, my fault, yeah. So I swap a few weapons around and boom, i'm DPS'ing.

Well this is great until I realize our healer is level 10 (i'm 23 with 375 cp's) and they are spamming light attacks and our group is not getting healed, AT ALL.

Ok, so now I'm healing and DPS'ing...and guess what...the tank can't hold taunt...so now I'm the tank. It was only Spindleclutch but that gave me a good skills test.

This was years ago: I got a random invite out of the blue, accepted on a whim, ported to group...no one moves to start the dungeon, everyone is just standing around. I tried talking to the group members in chat and got nothing but dead silence. Dropped group and left; I still have no idea what they were about.

This was my first MMO and I was pretty clueless for the first several hundred CP. During that time, a friend and I queued into Vet Tempest as the two DPS. We ended up with another pair that was the healer and tank.

It was pretty ugly. I rated good DPS by the number on the skill. Had bow on one bar and probably didn't know how to bar swap. I thought all circles were terrible so I diligently ran out of my healer's springs. My friend thought bread was the best food you could get, and I thought food was a waste of money. We overloaded the second to last boss to death.

I'm still in shock that the other pair didn't split after the first boss. They were beyond patient too, didn't make one comment about our skills for the several hours we spent together. Haven't met a group like that before or since.

Yes! That was it. It was Volenfell. So I'm not the only person who's gotten that glitch, then. I wonder if it only happens to healers?

Running freshly turned champs through veteran fungal grotto - baring in mind I’m totally newbie friendly so I have patience. On my max magsorc so yeah no problems, only to find all of them had queued for all the roles and I’d ended up with three dps alongside myself. Fair enough I’m all about a challenge - get to that boss that needs to have adds burned before anyone dies and she was just slapping them down like you wouldn’t believe. got out my matriarch to get the heals going (as no one was self healing) and ended up sort of tanking with shields, healing, rezzing and trying to burn down adds so my little noobs wouldn’t be toast under that pin she does.

Somehow managed it, was hailed as a god. :sunglasses:

Sounds like you’re ready for vMA. :p

I had a similar experience today, actually. Vet Blackheart Haven. Other DPS had less than 160 CP and was spamming snipe. Healer only used BoL on occasion and left it at that. I ended up having to swap out Stormfist for Trollking and healed the entire group with Vigor, AND did 95% of the group’s DPS. Sadly, though, this is hardly an unusual for me when at the mercy of the dungeon finder RNG...

Coh2 I was the healer. One of the dps did nothing at all except heavy resto staff attacks, I noticed during the first boss and kept watching and never saw one single skill used, only heavy attacks the ENTIRE time. So I ask "why are you a dps only heavy attacking with a restoration staff??" I ask like 3 times no reply. We carry her through the dungeon but wtf who is this clueless.

A lot of strange experiences tbh, but I like to pug, so the more you run, the more you see.

I think the strangest it's every run in dlc dungeons ending up with one or more top players and the runs go not only smooth but even hm.
That's quite strange in pick up groups but it happens.

Supposedly top players dying a lot or ignoring mechanics as if they don't know them at all. Once in Direfrost a Flawless couldn't get out of last boss aoe, he died a lot for that alone, it was incredible, maybe he was drunk or a relative was playing.
There is a tiny possibility of a pvp player who only ran vma as pve content to farm weapons and never bothered with such dungeons before, it's possible.

A healer writing a lot in chat (a returning player he said) very offended I asked if he could slot elemental drain, in vROM, he had no destro, even in inventory, and couldn't see why he should have equipped one as a healer, the other dps left immediately upon that answer, the healer started to talk about Chinese people roleplaying tank and dps.
The tank sent a whisper, he wasn't leaving "for hell" and he was reporting the healer for harassment and wasting his time, reason: "that's mental".
The message had curses and was very long.
I don't know, I was crying, it was too funny, the whole situation was truly grotesque.
When the new DD arrived, first thing he wrote:"healer, what's up with s/b?"
The healer voted to kick him, I was dying.

A tank in falkreath commenting on the probable size of the Minotaur's d!ck and focused on that detail for quite some time, while the healer was trying to explain mechanics. It's true.
Banished Cells 2 vet, the deadroths on the last boss knocked me back until i got stuck in the ground, i guess that not a part of the mechanics.
Happened to me once, I was healing and got stuck in between some stone blocks, couldn't move at all. I totally forgot about that, your post reminded me.

Whenever I have a pleasant dungeon run, I feel shocked, confused and disorientated, because more often than not I get in to dungeon runs that leave me sorely disappointed.

Things that I count as a good run: A well-balanced group (No super-powered 720 Skeevers ruining the dungeon or completely incomptetent people who don't use any abilities).

The run being a proper challenge (Tied with the first point, no fun in doing a dingeon run with the entire group essentially trivializing it).

The party being pleasant (Very rarely does this happen)

Everyone on point with the mechanics and understand what needs to be done when told about it.

If I had more dungeon runs like that, I would be very happy.

Queued for a normal dungeon, landed in FG I. First thing I see is the portal, second is the fact that there's only three members because someone just left. Use the portal and get placed on the last area with the last boss who was dead and long gone so the dungeon was completely empty. Noticed the other two people were actually NOT in the dungeon and walked into the door moments after I came full circle. Then another player joined the group apparently to fill the last gap.

It was some sort of creepy Twilight Zone deal with players being pulled out of the queue and into an already empty dungeon. Ended up leaving and queuing again.

Being in a random pug dungeon once as a MagDK, I got told by the tank, other dd and heal that I should not use flame damage at all. 1st I thought they were meaning, go stam as mag is crap or trolling me......no they were instructing me that I should go lighting damage instead.

When I said well DK has passives for flame damage etc etc (I was being nice about it) I got kicked....I am a pretty good DD btw so no probs with the numbers....

Then I got whispers from two of them saying I should learn how to play the game.....I was staring at the screen like WTF??

Was so confused by it. I just shook my head and went to a few of my guilds to tell the story...lol

The group who failed on normal city of ash 1 first boss :)
This was shortly after I returned, was around cp160, just started healing.
Know it was normal as tank was lvl 40 something.
Tank was an argonian with one sword and nothing off hand. Did not notice first, assumed he used sword and dagger on trash.
All focused on main boss and only me on the healing miniboss.

The group who failed repeatably on Imiril in nBC2 during the dungeon event, yes its possible if you think AoE has to be avoided at all cost.

And you have the annoying door in wayrest sever, tank rushed so I as healer and tank had to do boss without dps, yes it saved the tank a lot of time rushing :)

Then an positive one, needed direfrost keep quest on my stamblade, selected normal as quest and don't like the dungeon much. Smooth run, did quest, found that final boss had 6M something health.
Ops it was veteran mode, no issue once I figured out I needed spare stamina to break free.
And that is how you define an good group: is this normal mode I queued for vet.
The other way around is less pleasant.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I once queued into a normal dungeon and when I entered I was surrounded by three Argonians looking exactly identical.
They kept spamming /kowtow until I eventually left the dungeon.
I imagine my replacement got the same treatment.
Trolls wasting peoples time aside - it was actually pretty hilarious.

Dungeon run, I think it was fungal grotto normal, I come in to discover that 2 people had quit on the first boss, apparently they had such skill they were capable of not defeating it.

Ok, well I was on my healer, and we managed to finish from there somehow.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.
