Question about classes

Hey guys - I have a question about classes and morphing into the type of character I want to be.

In Elder Scrolls single player games, I always play a character who wears medium or heavy armor with a one handed sword and magic in the other hand. There isn't quite something like that in this game but it does look like the Dragon Knight can handle the medium to heavy armor and provide some good magic as well.

Is this a valid way to play the game? As a DPS who wears heavy armor but casts magic. Maybe like a battlemage or something? I've been trying to find info on class progression but besides the 4 main classes I can't find much info. I'm interested in hearing what others think though.

Thanks!

I believe that the Dragon Knight is ideal for that kind of gameplay. When I read the description the first thing that popped up in my head was heavy armor + magic.

Yeah, they have the option to wield staves like the rest of the characters so I wonder if a staff wielding Dragon Knight would be viable. That would be my ideal classes. Switching between a staff that deals out AoE fire spells and then switching to my sword when the enemies get close.

One of the things I really dislike about the ESO implementation of magic is the reliance on staves. In Skyrim and previous ES games, I rather liked the one hand for sword and one hand for magic approach. But that is not possible in ESO. Sure you can still cast magic with a sword in your hand but it just doesn't feel right somehow.

It would have been fairly easy for them to implement this. They could have a "single hand" magic skill (think up a better name than that) that automatically equips if you have one hand empty, replacing the weapon skill from your other hand.

Or an even better implementation would be let you "equip" different magic schools to each hand and then let you chose your hot bar from both schools (or one school and a weapon if you are holding a weapon in one hand).

    Oh well, I can dream...

You even said you played Elder Scrolls before... (slight weep).
ZoS wants you to play your character any way you like, ignore the classes they put in game as a gimp to MMO players who dont understand a game without classes. Sadly, it actually enabled elitist gamers to pick what their preconceived notions of the best class are. The only thing you are missing is that all classes cast spells, even the DK when he uses his class skills when using dual wield axes.
Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

I'm thinking of something like this for my future alt. DKs are great pyromancers. I'll go for light+heavy armor mix (probably 5+2, Razor Armor can boost me if needed). DPS with the staff, sword and shield as a survivability/buff bar.
