How to play sorcerers?

teladoy
teladoy
✭✭✭✭✭
Do they need max magicka? Spell power? Critical?

What sets are the most recommended? Sets that gives more magicka? Spell power? Spell penetration?

Sets with orientation to enhance damage like julianos and Spinners or sets that gives sustain like Amber plasm or shacklebreaker?

I'm very confused to prepare my sorcerer for pvp. My first idea is to combine julianos with Spinners with DW in one bar and a destro staff in another, but I don't know how this will affect my damage, my shield and my regeneration. I'm mean theoretically my damage should be boosted but that depends how the skills like for example cristal fragments scale, if it is poor then makes no sense focus in aggressivity.

I don't know if you get my point... that's why I would like to hear some good tips from experienced players with magicka sorcerers in pvp. My goal would be single targets deletion xD

for PvP usually you go with 1 offensive set and 1 defensive set.

Sorc is not my main, but:

Wizard's Riposte is a pretty powerful defensive set. Jewelry is pretty cheap and you can farm BG coffers for the staff.
Shacklebreaker seems to be a pretty common choice for body, and it's crafted.

Going for Max Magicka is a pretty safe bet because more magicka = bigger shields, but you will need some sustain. If you run out of magicka = no more shields = dead.

Not sure what's the go-to monster set these days for sorcs.

Other than that, put up your shields, do damage = profit.

most magsorcs today run a destro staff frontbar and a resto staff backbar for healing ward.
in PvP you have to find some balance between sustain and damage, since you can probably find an enemy with lot of mitigation and ressources, who cant be killed that fast.
mostly magsorc have o nice pool of magicka, since their shields depend on a a good magicka pool. mostly they also have a decent spelldamage, but sinc ethey have much max magicka, they already got some good toolkits on their skills.
Spellcrit is less important in PvP, since most enemies have crit ressistence or shields, which cant be critically damaged.
amberplasm, shacklebreaker and lich are the mostly used sustain sets, for the damage spinner was always a good choice. atm a lot ofsorcs play with a master fire staff, to have a spamable cc skill. also mitigation sets like wizards riposte are often used, since the mitigation also counts for your shields.

For PVP You want to be running Destruction Staff front bar and Restoration staff back bar. Dual wield Sorcs are in a pretty bad place right now because you have no sustained pressure.

Most Common Set Up is 5 Shackle breaker and then 5 Wizards Riposte on the back bar 1 Domihaus and a Master Inferno on the Front bar. if In a group where 1 member is already running wizard's then you can run Lich back bar instead if you so wish.

plenty of youtube videos around of Mag Sorc PVP builds to go more in depth.

Sorc was my main and only char, but build issues (stam passives Wood Elf without undaunted and mages guild passives so fairly weak) and the repeated casting of shields every few seconds just became too much for me to enjoy and have switched to mag dk. Am currently liking it a lot more (only a few days in after hitting 50 and switching to cp) but on the dk I got the adventurers upgrade so have a better suited class for it (Breton). Would like to return to sorc eventually though as they'd be my first choice really if they worked well enough for me. Will make a Breton one in the future hopefully, but would definitely prefer the 6 second shield thing to be revisited and changed to 8-10 seconds.

If I ever go back to sorc though I'll always miss flapping my wings. Has got me out of loads of trouble already in PVP and will probably continue to do so. Burning Embers is great in PVE too, even if I don't play that so often.

You should go for whatever you think is best, and if it doesn't work just experiment. That way you'll get to know sorc better. Spinners and Julianos was what I used too when starting out but you'll find yourself having sustain issues I think, so maybe better trying out Bloodthorn's Touch or something else instead of Spinners.

edit : so apparently caring about sustain is lolled at after reading other responses. Well just go with whatever you think is best, and remember that experimenting will allow you to get to know the class better. Try to be patient with it too, especially in PVP.

Sustain IS important. I'm pretty sure @ToRelax was being sarcastic.

There are sorcs that rely on dark conversion - but that carries its own risks - and you still need to build stam sustain to power it. Even so dark-conversion has to be just a top-up, not a full replacement for mag sustain, so you can never ignore it.

I'm not good at PvP but here's the basics.

Stack your Max Magic as much as you can. 40k+ is your goal.

When it comes to combat, use Haunting Curse, Force Pulse, and Crystal Frags whenever it procs. Mage's Wrath to execute. Spam Hardened Ward to shield yourself. If you're using a Fire Staff, use Destructive Reach to damage and knockback other players. Meteor or Soul Assault for your Ultimate.

When it comes to PvP, Spell Crit is pointless, everyone who bothers is wearing Impen gear which resists Critical damage.

    Nice meme
Sorcs need higher sustain than any other class

Almost everyone talking here is clueless.

Crit is extremely important as it will always do more damage than a non crit and help vs every target that doesn’t have a shield up.
Crit on a sorc when their ward is down and waste them.
Not everyone runs high impen and it isn’t hard to achieve 40-50% anyways
It also helps proc surge which returns hp and means you spend less mag on heal ward spending more time aggressive and all Aggro spells cost less than your defensive ones so playing on your front foot is beneficial to pressuring your opponent.

Shackle lich domi is a basic set up
Use asylum or master destro inferno
    Beserk enchant infused resto
Poison or mag absorb enchant on front

Inner light front bar for mag and crit = damage
Clench over shock with master staff
Shock and rune prison front or defensive rune back with asylum

If sustain is hard witchmothers/citrus gold food

    Atro
Maybe a regen glyph to pair with lich proc

Yeah, fortunately no one in PvP uses snares or gap closers, or resource drain poisons, or rooting poisons, or can also you know... streak after you, or mount up and casually saunter up to you with no resource cost at all, have access to bash or crushing shock, or simply sprint super fast with medium armor and major expedition.

And it's not like streak is only an effective gap widener across level ground because using it on an incline kills all forward momentum and results in a painstakingly slow fall to the ground during which no skills can be cast and the angry mob of 30 enemy players can literally just run after you while you hover above the ground like a dumb***.
