Advices for a crafter.

Hi people, I come here to search for some advices.

Is there any special place to farm mats? For example a higher mat density compared to other zones.
Are max level writs worth doing? Do they give something special?
Lastly, how do I know how much should I charge someone to craft them something?

Thanks in advance.

The starter islands tend to be the recommended areas for farming mats, if they aren't overpopulated (there's either more or they respawn faster or something).

Max level writs do have some special rewards:
Alchemy writs have a chance to get you survey maps to find get more of the common mats, and can give nirnroot (although they sometimes ask for nirnroot. But they lowered the odds so it doesn't happen as much.)
Enchanting writs have a chance to give Kutas (but only ever use Tas).
Provisioning writs have a chance at some of the higher-level recipes, although purple ones are still pretty rare. But, it also has a chance to give you the different Psijic Ambrosia fragments.
Blacksmithing/Clothing/Woodworking writs can drop survey maps to get more of the material, and can drop glass motif fragments.
All of the writs (at top-tier) have a chance to drop a master writ for you to complete.

Not sure how much is good to charge someone. I've only ever crafted for guildmates, and I only asked them to provide the rarer mats.

    All of this & more

enchanting writs can also drop surveys

the only way to get psijic fragments is from writs or traders and the cost of creating the food in minimal (assuming you have the passives to create 4 of each dish) and since they also reward the ingredients & recipies you will need to complete the writs they very quickly begin to pay for themselves

    Thank you @DiteHart and @puffytheslayer .

The question regarding charging for crafting is when I have to put in all of the materials. I avoid charging too if the materials, or at least the most expensive ones, are handed to me.

when i craft things for people i do not supply the materials for the simple fact that i cant be bothered to work out how much to charge lol

i do occasionally sell crafted supplies on traders but that is when i want to make some money fast so my prices are low on purpose - so im not a good person to ask

I normally tell them I'll charge market rate +50% handling fee for any of my own materials used or they can go purchase the mats needed themselves and give to me, where I'll craft for free. You'll find most people opt to purchase the mats for you.

And never ever craft something complex and/or expensive for someone on spec without a deposit of some kind. I got burned a few times early on making exactly what and how they wanted it, only to be told later "sorry, never mind, I found it somewhere else". Now you're stuck with it. Good luck getting your money back at that point.

I use Tiny Dogs Crafting Calculator for spec work. It allows you to give the person a breakdown of the mats needed and the cost, so they can either provide the mats or the money. It uses the market price information from Master Merchant. So you'll want that as well.

    Get harvest map add on.

Def do master writs (you mean the dailies right). Sure many people will tell you all the benefits in detail.

Some people and in guilds normally always dont charge you to get something crafted, they only let you send the materials. I think that is such a great attitude and a beautifull thing in this virtual world (other then the non virtual). I want to spread this seed and encourage you to try the same. Try it, its a nice and glorious feeling, for both, the crafter and the one who gets something :)

    Recomended farming areas:
Craglorn. The nodes have a random chance to drop nirncrux, a very important material for research and crafting masterwrits.
Goldcoast/Hews Bane/Wrothgar/Vvardwark Island: The nodes here have a random chance to drop extra items who can be turned into style materials for the styles of their zones.

    Crafting for other ppl:
Despite ppl not wanting the stuff anymore/not paying u/being jerks, theres also the risk that u craft their set in the wrong traits / wrong styles or send stuff to the wrong player (MailR helps at least finding out where u did send it too).

If u still want to do that, its fair to ask for the mats and a tip. Tip should somehow compensate you for your time spend.
When i did craft for other ppl, i always demanded: 1 mail per item, with the materials, traitstone and stylestone inside, to minimise the risk of a screwup. Also, i'd w/ the player linking every item before crafting and demanding a "Go" ;)

When I craft for friends or guildmates I don't ask for anything other than the materials needed. When I craft for others I ask for the materials + 2k gold per gear piece. An overwhelming majority of people have absolutely no problem with that, although there are some players who call me greedy, pleb or something like that because I charge them. What I don't understand is, why would anyone offer a service for free for any reason other than wanting to help someone. For people who don't have much time to play, it's simply wasted time, so I don't see any problem with charging others. I've seen people charge for anywhere between 2k-5k per piece of equipment.
