This thread is a real eye-opener. I would never have guessed there are so many solo'ers in what is after all an MMO, but that's the way things are going these days.

Also very reassuring to find that lots of people are anxious about joining groups. I thought it was only me who was afraid of letting the side down and making a fool of myself.

It just proves that whatever the circumstances you are never alone.

Many people (like myself) prefer solo gameplay but do like the social aspect of MMOs. I love the social interaction, guilds, market, crafting for others, etc but prefer solo combat and questing.

That's the glory of an MMO. you can play to your own style. The problem comes when people demand that the game change to their playstyle.

About 98% solo here. The only time I group is for guild events. I like questing, which most people don't, and I have a habit of picking up everything I see that's not nailed down, whether it's overland, or in delves. I'm not a good match for those "Go Go Go..hurry hurry hurry" and skip everything and not give a person time to even bother looting the kills before running off type of groups.

I solo everything I can. I aim to be self sufficient.

i don't like that the friends list in this game is by account and not character. I'd have no problem letting my healer join guilds and make friends but when I want to be left alone to sneak around I don't want to be bothered on my nightblade. Since we can't split it up by character, I stay solo.

Seconding the rec to talk to MissBizz: her guild Lone Wolf Help is awesome, and has weekly group events that are explicitly friendly for people who haven't run the content before. I learned my first vet dungeons with these folks and got great advice, and no one said a word about my then-ranged Breton vampire stamblade. :) Now that I've had more practice, I like taking people through new-to-them content because I get to play the mechanics instead of watch end game people burn stuff down (so feel free to message me if you're on PC-NA and want to try a dungeon).

I suggest bring upfront when you're looking for groups. If I say "I'm new to vet dungeons and have never run Vaults of Madness, anyone want to come with me?" then (usually) only people who are patient and willing to explain - and wipe! - will respond. It really helps my anxiety to try and pre-filter groups like that, but ymmv.

Thank you- all of this is incredibly helpful advice. I will take your & Turelus's suggestion and seek out MissBizz's guild. I KNOW my knowledge and confidence are lacking when it comes to mechanics and I know I'll make silly mistakes at first- but it sounds fun and I want to learn. If they have events that cater to the eager but uninitiated, then maybe that's a safe place I can start :)

I am indeed on PC-NA- and am grateful for your offer!!

I do pretty much everything solo. Which I don't mind. I would like to eventually start doing dungeons and such, but I have one person I know that actively logs on so it may be a while yet lol. My hours are not lined up with a lot of other people, and then I also have the social anxiety.

It's interesting to see where other people's social anxiety draws the line. I can do WB's and dolmens and things like that just fine. But the 4 people dungeons and PvP, oh man, that has been my line for a long time. I've done Banished Cells like twice a million years ago and that's it. (And a lot of responses on the forums I type out never make it to being posted)

Thank you so much! I'll mail you in-game, I'd very much like to join, and hopefully at some point try a dungeon or trial without being terrified

And @mommadani907 I think our 'lines' are very similar. I can run up to dolmens and WBs and join in, though I don't respond/group for them when there's a call out in chat for more to join. 4-man dungeons and trials are intimidating, except when I 2-man the normal dungeons with my son
I think it's a matter of whether I need to pull my own weight or not in a given situation. If I make a fool of myself and fail in a vet dungeon, that matters. When I'm one more in a dolmen or boss crowd, not so much. I'm really surprised at how many of us feel this way. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

For an MMO, I've been very pleased with the amount of solo content. I can play most nights without feeling like I'm doing the same thing over again; in fact I still haven't finished all of the DLC quests. And I'd keep playing happily even without any group content, but as I enjoy most everything about the game I'm very curious as to what I'm missing.
