How do crown research scrolls work?

I recently switched over from console to PC and I am trying to get my character caught up. Before I go an purchase crown scrolls I would like to know how they work. Not sure if this has been answered already.

Specifically my question is, does time roll over when I use a scroll? For example, the first two traits researched on an item take 6 and 12 hrs respectively, for a total of 18 hrs with no passives. If I were to use a 1 day scroll, on the first trait would my remaining 18 hrs roll over for my second trait? This would mean my first two traits would finish instantly, leaving me with 6 unused hours on the scroll which I could use to accelerate my 3rd trait's timer.

Is this how they work? Or is it a 1 trait at a time sort of thing, where once a trait finishes you lose the unused time?

    Time does not roll over.

It will reduce everything being researched in that crafting (Clothing, Blacksmithing, and Woodworking) area.

So if you have three things being researched in clothing, and all three have 4 days 9 hours left, after using the scroll all 3 researches will have 3 days 9 hours left now. If all three researches happen to be under the 24 hour mark, all three will finish being researched and no time will roll over to any new researches.

Meaning, don't waste a scroll on something you can't wait 2 hours left for... just a waste.
