Willpower vs Grace of the Ancients

Willpower set:
(2 items) Adds 1451 Max Magicka

(3 items) Adds 193 Spell Damage

VS
Grace of the Ancients:
(2 items) Adds 967 Max Magicka

(3 items) Increase Maximum Magicka by 4%.
Which one do you think is better?

Willpower. Maybe on a magsorc/magnb using necro that extra 4% could beat the willpower bonuses? You'd have to test the numbers though, safe choice is willpower.

Well... Mag sorc and mag NB are the only ones using these types of jewelry anyway:P
1000 mag is roughly 100 SD,seems to me they are almost identical if you have a 35k Magicka pool. (Could be wrong)
Since more magicka gives you higher shields it may be worth rolling with Grace of the Ancients, but I need your guys' insight on this.

Tried it, Grace of the Ancients must be applied multiplicative in a bad way as it didn't come close to Willpower on a high mag build.

^ I didn't know that. I'll chk on mine. I had more Magika, less Spell Damage as id expect. I'll chk again

Personally I felt the OP's points are correct they are close on output but you gain on wards from more magika and pets scale from Magika not SD thus the question is better for what.

193 spell damage is roughly worth 2123 magicka
53500k magicka * .04 = 2140 magicka

So the break even point purely for damage starts at about 53500. Assuming this set is 4% on top of every other modifier -- and I'm not sure that's the case.

I can see this as valuable for pet sorcs maybe. Necro + Grace + monster + vma staves. Or in leiu of monter + vma, a 3 piece regen set (like Transmutation) or 3 piece max mag set (like Shadowdancer)

You didn't account for the +484 raw magicka WP gives you over ancients.

So you have to make up for the 2026 equivalent Magicka from the 193 SD, plus the 484 actual.

This gives a total of 2510 to make up, and you're gonna have to already be sitting at 62,750 to get that back via ancients.

Willpower is the better way to go.

Willpower will be better next patch as well since stats is getting a huge nerf

You are correct. I was wondering why last time I did the math I came up with 60k+ and not this time.

Afaik grace of the ancients is/was based on your base magicka. Maybe it got fixed/changed? Not sure

If ur relying on shield more than healing, then grace, willpower for slightly less shield strength an slightly more tooltip value damage to a skill a slightly more tooltip healing

If you have over 55k (or maybe a bit less) magicka Grace of the Ancients might be slightly better. Lets give it a rough estimate that 1000 magicka = 1000 spell damage:

(3 items) Increase Maximum Magicka by 4% for 55k magicka is 2200 magicka. But you will have mages guild and other racial and non-racial abilities that will have that buffed with roughly 25% so its around 2750 magicka from only the 4% increase.

The % based stat buffs go off of base magicka, which is lower than your character sheet magicka. How much lower depends on how many other % magicka buffs you have. But in general, you're looking at 25-30k base magicka

For Grace to be even close to willpower, it would need to return 2902 magicka in total. Which it just doesn't without necro, high CP and more Max magicka tradeoffs (mundus, 2x monster helm magicka, etc)
