Not a good sign for Morrowind ... or anything else

I've played ESO every day for more than a year, and ZOS computer records will not only show that - they will also show that I'm PS4 user.

Exclusively.

Yet today, I got a beta test selection for Morrowind. For the PC.

Lots of folks have pointed that out. But what they haven't noted is the general, overall downhill slide in the game over the 12 months. That I would receive a beta test invitation is just systematic of that slide.

I don't remember the date of my first blue screen, but it was last year, around the end of February. By then, I'd already been playing the game for a couple of months, and I was hooked. I didn't yet have ESO Plus, but I was logging in at every opportunity and sifting through my stuff. At that time, blue screens were still rare ... maybe one every couple of weeks. I hadn't yet had my first screen freeze, nor had I experienced a random disconnect.

It was another month or so before I would login to Cyrodiil and see that ESO Plus was necessary for all of my plants. There was no queue at that time. I could pop in and out of Cyrodiil in blink, and blue screens were still rare. I bought the Imperial City DLC before I subscribed to ESO Plus. I liked/like Wrothgar, but don't care much for Hew's Bane (other than farming), and didn't like the Dark Brotherhood at all - random murder of innocents just isn't my style.

With each DLC the number of blue screens, random freezes, disconnects, and exceptionally long screens climbed. Whereas they used to be rare, they became common.

Now, with Morrowind just two months away, I average at least one blue screen a day. Total screen freezes are about once every 15 gaming hours. Cyrodiil lag means that I can get killed with five attacks and never see/feel any of them. Long load screens pile up, till I have to close app and restart everything. DCs are three to four a day.Queues to get in to Cyrodiil are forbidding, easily topping a line of 150 would-be players at popular times and an hour of waiting is not uncommon.

Blue screens and DCs used to be unheard of in overland PvE section of the game, yet over the weekend I was dropped moments before we beat the boss in Hel Ra. Several other players bemoaned similar experiences over the last couple of weeks. Screen freezes in Imperial City Prison plagued me on Sunday.

I'm not excited for Morrowind, and will likely not purchase the DLC.

It's not that I quibble about the money. Heck, I'd gladly pay for the game, because ESO, when it works, is the best game I've ever played, and I'm a 62-year-old gamer.

It's that over the last 12 months, with each update, each patch, each DLC, each tweak/nerf, the game has degraded. On the bad days, it's nearly unplayable, and those days are becoming much more common.

So, no. I don't want to - and I'm not able to - beta test Morrowind.

But if you checked your records, you already knew that.

Thanks anyway.

Many console players also have PCs, including original PC-based accounts, and are therefore able to use the PTS. It's right that console players should be invited, even if they can't all participate.

As for performance, it does sound like you have some serious system issues. Maybe it's just the console version, but what you describe doesn't sound like a typical experience or there'd be nobody left playing. Blue screens are usually hardware related, not software-related - at least on PC, I have no personal knowledge of consoles.

The blue screens must be coming from your end mate. I have no such difficulty. IF I crash its a couple times in a row. But that only happens every month or less.. Maybe get your system checked?

You're a PC player. No disrespect, but you have no clue how bad the console folks have it.

Not just me. All of us. Check out the forums for the consoles. We get blue screens. A lot. Game freezes for all of us on PS4 are off the hook. Lag is brutal (hence the recent no-CP test by ZOS), especially in Cyrodiil.

I do not get blue screens in any other game I play on PS4. None. I don't get game freezes, long load times, or random disconnects. Only in ESO.

Believe me. These are typical on the console.

And no, Phatmattfu, I won't buy it. Not till it's fixed.

QFT. I play numerous games on PS4, and none of which make me crash as frequently as ESO has. Whether it be: GTA:5, DriveClub, Skyrim, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, DOOM, Project Cars, Disgaea 5, etc. None of them give me as much trouble as ESO has.

I can also confirm console version runs terribly. Im on Xbox and have had a very similar experience to you in terms of freezing and lag. I have not had a blue screen yet.

And yes, on the days where its bad the game is virtually unplayable.

Im hoping once the new Xbox comes out and the game is optimized for it, it will run similar to PC version.

hard freezes, preceded by graphical glitches (particularly in Cyrodill) are quite frequent on XBOX NA console. Seems to get progressively worse the longer I play, until an eventual hardfreeze/crash usually every 45 minutes or so.

ZOS has clearly stated that there's a WINDOWS10 memory leak, and has offered some work arounds, which are not available to the XBOXONE console running WINDBLOWS 10.

Looking at some of the things mentioned here...

Most of the time, if things get worse the longer you play, it typically indicates a potential heating problem.

Another issue that shows up from prolonged play is memory leaks. This causes an inordinate amount of RAM usage. I am unsure of the actual client differences between the PC and console versions, so I am unable to really say this IS for sure a cause.

I'm on the PS4 and I think I could count on 1 finger how many times I've had a blue screen over the last month. That said, Cyrodiil does have serious issues on consoles. Loaaaaaaaaaaaading screens galore. Not touched trials in months, so can't comment on those.

Okay, this cracks me up. For nearly a month, we've been seeing threads from people going, "but, I play on consoles, why can't I get into the closed beta?" Coupled with cries of, "it's not fair," "it's so unfair," and, "where are my pants?"

So, ZOS apparently decided, "okay, you play on consoles, you might have a PC that can run the game, let's get your input."

...and then we get these threads.

Again, difference between PC and Consoles. We don't get the attention that you do, because we're a small user base. I've used computers since the 70s. I know them well. If it was just me, yeah, I'd say there's a glitch in my PS4. But it's not just me. The issues are spread across the console community.

Because choice. It's simple really and nothing overly taxing about it whatsoever. If you're happy on PC, then that's all that should matter to you. Really wouldn't go losing sleep over what piece of electrical equipment people other than yourself purchase.
