Sneak Eye isn't very helpful as a warning

Are there any addons that improve on its functionality? I mean ideally, the completely closed eye means it's safe to steal, partially opened eye is warning you it's dangerous to steal and open eye is detected... the not helpful part is that the eye is partially open even if there's someone on a different floor of the house you're picking a lock in, meaning that warning is coming way too early, making it ineffective at being a warning and resulting in a lot of "suddenly busted out of nowhere" moments. The default indicator is like the boy who cried wolf, and when you're picking a lock it's your ONLY form of situational awareness. I basically never have situations even as a bosmer with -7m stealth detection radius and wearing all medium armor. I'm always having to steal with a partially open eye, meaning there really is no warning except "just don't steal at all unless everyone in the building is dead"

Not asking for stealing to be easier.. just.. a better UI element that provides better situational awareness.

I think it's poor implementation of NPC detection and line of sight, not the eye itself. It works perfectly in Cyrodiil - except against NPSs there, which have super-powers and you just have to memorize how close you can get. About 100 yards.

Whether the API gives hooks to addons that can tell when an NPC can really detect you I do not know. I'd ask in the addon forum.

That could be a shame. Right now it feels like having a health bar that is full when you're 100%, but looks like it's at 25% when you're at 99%. So you don't know when to pop a potion.

The odd thing is what you're experiencing is that the eye is only really reacting to the NPC you're by, but some other NPC in the line of sight that you'd think there's no way could see you can, and the "sneak eye" as you so charmingly call it doesn't react to that. Doesn't happen with mobs, though.

but it reacts that way to NPC's that are on another floor of a building, or on the other side of a tent wall, or are facing away from me.

The only thing the eye seems to measure is distance. It doesn't take line of sight into account. Well, for the warning. For actual detection there has to be a line of sight... at least I hope.

Well, that's what I mean by line of sight being broken. For mobs it works great - in fact, while mounted, most of my toons can come within 3 meters of a mob (due to the dark brotherhood passive) when their back is turned and I'm at full speed. There's something amiss with how the Justice system implemented detection.
