TESO and its problem of "Eye Cancer"

This is definitely a problem, not only is it an eyesore, it's absolutely ridiculous to play in. Sometimes I die because I miss dodges because I can't see the red attack telegraphs because of grass/the hundreds of spells going off/dark textures hiding it.

I don't care if they have to make it neon red and have absolutely no transparency, I want to see the "red zone" NO MATTER WHAT
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 11 years. 8 paid expansions. 29 dungeon and zone DLCs. 45 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. Just because Cadwell Silver&Gold failed doesn't mean the game should be brain dead easy forever.

"ESO doesn't need a harder overland" on YouTube for a video of a naked level 3 character w/ no CP allocated AFKing in front of a bear for a minute and a half before dying if you don't believe me change is needed.

This^^ most annoying thing is dying because you don't see red zones with the spells going on.

As a sufferer or chronic migranes and cluster headaches, I can totally relate. I had to buy a new, much higher quality monitor with better and more in-depth colour and brightness tweaking options as my old Acer was simply too basic. All you could do is turn brightness/contrast up and down, that's it. On this one i can change the colour intensity, apply various colour filters, even filters for people with eyesight problems, blue/red/nighttime/daytime/reading filter etc. I know there probably are some programs that let you change that, but not natively - you are still limited to your display output and it looks fake and washed out. This way I can tweak things without sacrificing the picture quality.

Not only the spells looks too intensive. Go to the Bleakrock Island at sunny day and you'll be blinded by snow that is the whitest of the white snows I've ever seen in video games. I can't see anything there without a sunglasses. ESO really needs some settings to make these effects less bright.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

What prize range are we talking about?

Can you really get rid of the flashy effects with tweaking and filtering cause i tried to play with low gamma and it still was painfull to watch certain effects, that are just too bright (a lot of Templar skills)

I do agree that one of the problems with ESO's telegraphed combat (and combat effects in general) is that when too much is happening, like in raids or dungeons, it's almost impossible to see what's happening. ZOS intended the game to be playable without things like buff trackers, and in solo play that's possible to an extent since all effects/buffs and spells you cast are visible to you. But the moment more people come in, things get much more complicated. Which Liquid Lightning is mine? Which Endless Hail etc.?

Other MMOs with telegraph combat like Wildstar colour their telegraphs differently based on whether it's friendly or enemy attacks/heals etc. (http://www.ign.com/wikis/wildstar/Telegraphs) The colour of the red attack telegraphs is also bright and distinct enough to be noticeable even when the ground is red. Telegraphs show their outlines clearly and slowly fill, triggering when the shape becomes solid. All these convey useful timing and size info that makes telegraphs an essential part of combat.

In ESO, telegraphs are often rudimentary and vague. Conal attacks often have vague red areas near the end of the cone that don't show the full extent of the area. Circular attacks expand outwards but don't show maximum radii. I feel these could be improved upon to make combat in ESO more interactive.

Finally, ZOS could start adding a bit more attack variety to monsters, it's getting quite stale.

It's an immersion tool. Didn't you know every race apart from nords suffer from Chronic snow blindness when in the colder regions of Tamriel?

One thing I think they should do, and other games do this already, is add an option to filter other player's spell effects (minus those with synergies). I don't need to know when my group fires off a destro ultimate.

This would help us know when our effects end and help with the clutter going on around us.

    Try playing in third person.

    @Bananabrodude

This is what is suggest first. Regardless of PvP or PvE seeing more is better to avoid damage and should reduce the lighting effects your pointing out.

Install a blue-light filter in your comp like f.lux. will help with the higher end of the spectrum l, which is probably the source of any eye strain.

This. Wildstar is the one ZOS should be looking to when it comes to combat telegraphs. I hope that one day they tone down the ability effects but even just making these kinds of adjustments would infinitely improve the combat experience of the game.

Try out the free program f.lux.

It might not be exactly what you're after (it'll reduce the overall colour temperature of your monitor, removing a lot of the intense blues and whites), but it'll be FAR easier on your eyes, especially during evenings. Having used it for some time now, I can't go back to normal monitor settings.

I find it particularly bad in Trials when 3-4 Destro ults are going on, Grothdarr and other effects at all proccing at once. I literally can't see a thing at times when the fights are going on (a screenshot doesn't do the confusion justice). It's like staring in a disco ball that's reflecting the sun.

    "Don't stand in the red!"

If only I could see where the red was...

You could start by minimalizing your interface. Cluttering it with damage numbers will not help you if you already know your rotation. You can also configure your buff tracker so it only shows the buffs you have in your control in real time. You would use a combat statistics addon afterwards anyway if you wanted to monitor uptime etc.

In Age of Conan... there was actually a video setting to turn off spell effects... I preferred to play with spell effects turned off and instead relied upon animations and specific sound effects to clue me in on what was happening... made for a much cleaner gaming experience!

I am always melee... and when you get into the thick of things with spells blowing up in your face... can make it a real challenge to stay on target.

Thank you for your post, as yours is the only one which took into consideration the actual monitor.

To the OP, I would recommend you do the following:
    1) Reset the game settings to their default. Annoying, but necessary.

    2) Close out all programs. Turn off your computer, then power it back on. Do not restart. Windows 8+ now keeps residual settings for faster reload and you want to flush these as well.

    3) Click this link: https://google.com/search?q=monitor+test+pattern&biw=1205&bih=820&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiS8aOir5fSAhUL42MKHdrwDVEQsAQIJQ It gives you a variety of test images you can use if your monitor does not provide them (which is an indicator you need a new monitor).

    4) Adjust your monitor settings so the image looks good to you. Focus on the high contrast colors as this will be an indicator on how much light penetrates through the screen. If your monitor allows/has it, adjust your backlight. LED displays can be drastically altered by adjusting the light emission of the backlight (though at a cost of losing "darks").

    5) Once you're satisfied, restart the game and adjust it accordingly to the new baseline of your monitor. You should see a drastic improvement if you're using a mid/high range monitor.

    6) Enjoy.

I don't use the default settings of the monitor, though I know many do.

Just remember software settings only affect the software, not the actual monitor. Both should be adjusted accordingly.

If your monitor doesn't have the option to save multiple settings, write them down in the event you lose power to the monitor.

    Hope this helps!

Have you thought about getting gunner glasses? I find them most helpful when I am caught up in a zerg of dangerous spells flashing up and going everywhere.

I also have a monitor screen protector that dims most of my ligths, make sure the lights in your room are not too bright but good enough not to give you eye strain. Working in animation I am always staring at screens at all times of the day and night so you must protect your eyes!!

Check the settings of eso and bring down the brightness ect that also helps :)

This is due the game engine of the game.. porbably the game engine is some of those that makes light particles shine so much (as hell). I play on PC, If you have Nvidia GeForce could try to use some filters, although I haven't find the proper combination of filters yet...
I love Elder Scrolls, but usually when I play ESO I ends terrible tired, it seems this is due too much ligthing stimulation... probably that is good to keep people hypnotized and stimulated, but I prefer enjoying immersing some chill time in Elder Scrolls, not being overstimulated by shinny pompous lights..

Would be great an option in settings to deactivate the light radious or something about decrease light intensity effects. There are two related to ligthing Bloom and Sunglare, deactivating these helps a bit but still doesn't decrease the generic light effects, like shrines or spells
