Unlocking vigor

What is the best way to level up assult for someone who lags out every time they get near a keep? Having some real trouble getting ap, I play magicka characters and never worried about leveling this up, but am now making a stam character I do not play cyrodill because of the lag so now I'm stuck riding to keeps only to get dropped back to the login screen because of lag. What else can I do besides help take and defend kèeps?

There's like a million topics of what you're asking. Just repair walls and show up for keep defences etc.. follow the zerg and "help" kill enemy players.

If you lag in big fights you shouldn't "follow the zerg". Since you're stam, killing people fast shouldn't be a issue, specially less experienced players.

Go for a high damage burst build with like alchemist + random procsets of your choosing.

Take a enemy resource a bit further away from the main action, alone.

Kill a few enemies there, stay for defticks. If you die, try it again.

You'll unlock vigor pretty fast like this while staying away from the zerg fights and repairing keeps (zzzzzzzzzzz).

Don't forget to refresh that AP buff (20% ap for 1 hour after killing a dungeon-boss in any Cyro dungeon)

You're gonna have to run out in the open and for solo players to kill then. But since you dont have vigor thats gonna be a struggle for you unless you can kill them while only using rally once or twice.

Find a keep, stand there through the lag. You may not be able to play but your char could get AP

Also Ap from repeatable quests (so slow though...)

You could always run the quest lines. They are repeatable every day and do level you up.

I used all the AP I got and about 60k gold buying keep repair kits. Do some of the quests, follow the Zerg, get lucky to port into a defended keep. Still took a few days, spending a couple hours a day in lovely Cyrodil.

That's not gonna work for somebody who's inexperienced at PVP.. It takes quite a while to learn to not die - and its easy to forget how competent most players out there are compered to a PVP-newb (I know - I started the game late).

tbh, I think Vigour should be obtainable from the undaunted line too - and I also think that undaunted bastion should be obtainable from one of the PVP lines (as well as undaunted).

Slap on a Resto staff, and start aoe spamming on friendly Zerg, while making sure you stay in the back. Got me vigor in 2 days(2 hours pvp each day) and caltrops shortly after.

If there's lag...the whole experience stinks, you're right. You need about 85k AP total. You might have tried some of these, but in case these help:

Keep defense

This is your friend. If the lag hinders it, try going to smaller battles outside of busy hours. If it's still laggy, try playing one keep back/ahead. Like your whole team runs up to the next keep for a big battle. Stay behind to defend from roving enemies. This especially works at outposts. Still laggy? try a less populated campaign. If all else fails, figure out which keep is changing hands over and over. When you get control, park yourself in the lobby. Maybe you'll earn AP when your team defends...maybe you'll die.

Resource trap gank

This works better toward the end of the night, imo. Get a couple of friends to go 2-3 keeps into enemy territory...kinda out of the way of the fighting. I'm AD...if the battles are down in AD territory, go all the way to ash. Take a resource. Set up a forward keep nearby. Hide on the flag. Wait for a single enemy to notice and come wandering over. Kill him. Then he'll come back, sometimes with a friend. Repeat. Then more. Repeat until untimely death.

This will keep you off on another section of the server and might resolve lag. I can make the 85k AP doing a couple of sessions of this on a good night.

Resource capture and scouting

The AP rewards for a resource capture are about to go to 1,000 AP. Go into an empty server with a friend.

Repair walls

Approx 1400 wall repairs gets you vigor. That's $105k gold if you fund your whole vigor with wall repair...not the worst cost for something in the game. But it's dull as heck. Still...when things are quiet, go to the keeps on the far edges of the maps that you control. These almost always have 2000 AP+ in Wall damage..repair away.

Keep going.

You want caltrops too, lol. So another 25.000 AP...
