What is the difference between spell damage, spell critical, and spell penetration?

DaWabbajack259
As you can tell by the title, what is the difference? I am using a high elf sorcerer, and want to have my spells in PvP do as much damage to a player as possible, but as i am looking at sets i notice they offer bonuses to the three listed above. can someone please explain? Thanks

'Tis the difference between a good ol' punch to yo face that gives ye a br'ken nose, a vicious punch to yer face that gives ya a red eye and one mutha hell of a punch that goes right through yer teeth and blows yer e ffing head!!

I'm not quite sure how the math is worked but I'll do my best to explain.

Spell power is calculated into your max magica and determins how much damage your spell attacks do. The higher the spell power the more damage you can do, as well as the higher you max magica is as well.

Spell critical is a % that determinds how often you will do a critical attack, this adds about a 1.5 damage multiply onto your attack. So if you do 1000 damage and you do a critical hit you will do 1500. The higher your spell critical % is the more often you will do a critical hit.

Spell penatration is used to reduce the effectiveness of the enemies armor. A higher spell penatration the less effective a enemies spell resistence is and the more damage you can do to them.

One thing you need to take into account is Spell resistance and Critical resistance players will have that can effect the overall effectiveness of your attacks.
