Need Magdk advice

I have been testing a bunch of stuff and cant make up my mind so i wanted to get some opinions

Im running Sun set (jewelery + 2x 1h sharpened)Didnt get swords because they were too expensive :P but i have both weps gold and the necklace is also gold

Now, for the armor+monster set thats what i cant make up my mind about.

All armor is in inpen:

I tested 5/5 burning spell weave light armor (i actualy have 2 of those pieces already gold)

and Ratlecage heavy armor

For the monster sets i tried Groth and Skorya

When it comes to dps, despite a slight higher spellpwoer with burning spellweave, both bsp and ratlecage seem to be on par.#Even doe Ratlecage seems to be more reliable since u dont rely on a proc(even though bsw proc is pretty much always up).

Now, i know that heavy vs light is still a debate , but i really feel like in this case they are pretty close.I get more resistances and higher health with heavy , but honestly with everyone running so much penetration it doesn't really feel that much more tanky (specially with dualwield). With light armor i get way more crit and penetration, even doe it doesnt feel like i do that much more damage. In terms of sustained, well, i run pretty low mag recovery on either sets, and the heavy armor constituition bonus doesnt seem to be that impactful.

Now the monster sets, well, they BOTH get a huge bonus out of the bsw set but the problem is burst vs dps

Skorya has the burst, getting some nasty crits sometimes, but it seems to proc WAY less often then groth even doe the proc% difference is only 2% more on groth.
Groth on the other hand, on a magdk seems to be nasty af, and it easily triples the dps of skorya.(it easily does 2k+ dps single target alone.).

Now, obviously they are both good in differrent situations, same as the bsp vs ratlecage, but in general (duel, smallscale zerg 1v1 1v x..etc) what are you guys opinions about these sets?

(im sorry for my poor English)

Skorya procs on dots. Groth procs on any type of dmg. It is why groth procs more then skorya. Flame lash will proc groth for example but not skorya.

Light vs heavy, BSW vs Rattlecage. It is the age old thing isn't it. In the old days (just like they are doing now again) people were stacking impen like mad. Because people were using crit builds and doing huge burst dmg. Since everyone was stacking impen so much. Crit builds lost their appeal. Noone was running crit builds because of all the impen. No more need for impen...

Same is happening now. You have so many HA users with impen. People are running penetration builds to counter the resist. Meaning that if you wear HA and don't invest further (buffed about 24-25k resist) then it is rather pointless to wear HA. Since so many people have stacked up to 16k penetration. Might as well be wearing LA for all the good it is doing you. Now if you stack resist over the hard cap (32K) and combine it with some other damage reducing effects... then we're talking.

To be honest, the second scenario is what I am going for atm. I'm building a magDK and trying some stuff out.

ATM im wearing sun (jewelry, S&B main bar), 5 black rose (impen), grothdar and offhand bar is seducer (extra regen 2piece, sword defending, shield sturdy). Race dark elf (surprise surprise) and also a vamp.

Enchants are prysm (tristat) on armor, magicka regen on jewelry, purple food

Monster set i'm experimenting with bloodspawn, grothdar and molag kena.

Grothdar is nice for the dps
Molag kena is nice in small scale. Hits like a truck.
Bloodspawn is nice for tankiness (when it procs you go over hardcap resist easy).

To be fair: im running in non CP campaign.

Still playing with sets etc. But it has nice sustain. Great tanking capability, especially coupled with inhale/ember. Overall dps is much lower. Not a burst build. But it is high enough imho.

Again, non cp build. In CP campaign u can probably lose jewelry enchants and switch to spellpower thanks to CP passives.

Hope this gives you some ideas. Hopefully you can give some feedback on this as well.

My death logs are the same in LA or HA because at base it's all penetrated. What makes HA more survivable is the boost to healing to counter the defiles and mostly the stam recovery while blocking. There are only 3 defenses at base... shielding, dodging and blocking, and blocking is for HA. I combine mine with bloodthorn for even more stam.

You can get defense out of mitigation but it doesn't occur with base heavy armor, HA just gives you a higher starting platform.

What @Armitas said. If you go HA, you should go 1HS. If you go DW, you should go LA, get over 40k magicka, and shield stack as your main mitigation.

Question do u want to be a DPS or Tank?

DPS I run on a Bomb DK:
    2x Grothdar (Head Infused(Heavy) and Shoulder Sturdy(Med)
5x Burning Spellweave (All Light and Impen)
5x Vicious Death (Jewerly, 1h Sword(Sharp), Board (Impen)

I run Tri Stats on All Pcs bc ur a Mag DK and Need to Block.

On a Tank DPS Set I Run:
    2x Skoria All Impen
    5x Black Rose All Impen
5x Sun Jewelry and Sword & Board

    For Pure Tank:
    2x Pirate Skeleton
    5x Black Rose
    5x Desert Rose

    Defile Tank:
    2x Pirate Skeleton
    5x Black Rose
    5x Fasallas Guise
