Tanks in PVP and Dueling

billywink3b14_ESO
What are your thoughts? I'm coming back after quitting maybe a year ago, maybe a bit sooner.

I've always enjoyed playing a supporting role so I'm wondering if anyone has a decent tank/support build they could share. Someone that can mitigate damage but also provide aoe heals/buffs maybe? That's probably not possible since we have to stack magicka or stam though right? Sorry I'm thinking this out as I am typing...

I want to be able to duel for fun and put up a decent fight but also support others on my team when I play in Cyrodiil since it's such a zergfest (from my past experience)..

Maybe I should just make a healer since they can do magicka spells for dmg and not lose out on their healing power? But I feel like they have little to no defense with light armor and such... it's been too long I'm so lost now !!

Deltia put up a good combo build for a tanky DK that can also work in duels. It's on his YouTube channel.

There's also a useful role for more of a pure tank in team based PvP - the first-into-the-breach person whose job is to draw attention, cc and debuff like mad, and survive for a goodly period of time. In those builds your job is not to kill people but to harass the enemy.

I'm of the opinion that dedicated tanks shouldn't duel. A tank should be able to stand up to any assault from 1 player easily (can't be killed) and would have an incredibly difficult time (though sometimes not impossible) killing any single player by themselves (can't kill). They have no business in a duel to me.
*edit: Unless of course they're dueling someone who knows that the goal of the fight is to test something out

Tanks in pvp are lame. Really subject to trolling if you tank in duels. I play on ps4 and people say some really crazy rude things to people who tank in duels. I lwont accept duels from tanks either. ZOS doesn't seem to understand pvp balance in this game.

I've seen people disrespect someone who was a tank, even though they initiated thr duel. It's rather ironic. I wouldn't want to duel playing as or against a tank, just not fun.

Pvp balance is one thing, never expect then to balance pvp around duels, it's rather foolish. Pvp is mainly large scale, it's suppose to be set up that way and balanced in that manor.

I never got to play it that much because my group shifted it's focus but I thought Fasalla, sanctuary, pirate skeleton was pretty good for tanking in a group. It's not a perma tank, but it can tank for a while and serves a purpose other than standing around not dyeing.
    • Fasallas debuffs the healing of those that hit you by 50%
    • Pirate skeleton gives you mitigation and decreases the damage you take by 30% but it also reduces the healing you receive by 15%
    • To combat the defile sanctuary will give you 16% more incoming healing as well as buffing your groups inc healing by 12%.

Hmmm yea I see your points dueling as a tank would be kind of stupid. Either no one will kill you or you won't kill them. I was just thinking maybe I could DPS as a tank and have that extra survivability but that doesn't seem to be an option..

I'm going to be re-rolling so I just need to figure out what class I want to start with. I know NB are annoying still and have great mobility, Sorc also with the mobility. Templar and DK mobility doesn't really exist right?

I would want to either be able to disengage and start again or be able to have good survivability where it's like a "reset"... ex) Ok I lived through their burst and ult now I can heal up a bit and then attack them since they're on CDs or low on resources.

There are lots of way to be tank-y as a DPS, without being a tank. StamDKs in particular can be tough as nails and still have good damage. Being tanky with the ability to kill is pretty much the standard nowadays.

Throw on procc sets and heavy armor. Be tanky, be bursty, be the incarnation whats the biggest issue with duelling right now.

Heavy armor magicka templar healer; there are numerous builds with good regen, crit and are hard to kill -- and you NEED to be hard to kill because you are going to get focused down by any group with a brain. Swap gear and you can DPS or heal and DPS in PvE. Still not quite happy? Respec and be a blazing shield and/or debuff tank.

Abandoning the one size fits all mindset is one of the best things you can do for yourself in PVP. It's really easy to farm gearsets these days, and make your builds around as few sets of gold weapons as possible to keep costs down. I use Alphagear (dressing room is also an option) to save my gear/skillsets for different purposes. I change out when I solo 1vX, when I duel, and when I group. Once you count PVE builds I have at least 6 different buidouts on each character. Normally reusing the same 4-5 sets in different configurations, though.

My point is you should go ahead and be a tank in group settings if that's your thing, but in duels you'll need teeth unless you want to stalemate and bore everyone to death.

    Thanks for the advice all!
I'm trying my best to look into it, I'm a slow MMORPG player so idk how I will do with crafting etc. Thankfully though I have my old alts and they're pretty high in crafting so huzzah!

I just looked at a skill calculator and there are ultimates for weapons now?! OMGGGG this is making my life so difficult #firstworldproblems

I kind of want a Templar tank/healer bc I've always like the aspect of the "light" but then Sorc looks very fun again but Idk how well they would be as a tank or even a support... then it's like hmm do I want to try NB bc the mobility is great and since I'll more than likely be solo most of the time maybe that's the best option for me.... then there's DK who has a lot of mitigation skills ugh
