ESO is not fun!

Why can't MMORPG's just be easy and fun? Not easy in a gameplay sense but easy in a "just let them loose in the world to do what they want" kind of sense.
This game took ♥♥♥♥ing forever to get past the tutorial which honestly I absolutely hated, and then it plopped me down in a place I don't care about and never told me how to leave,
just that I should take a side in this boring plot line that I had no reason to be invested in.
Okay great, an unlikable character is stuck in coldharbor with Molag Bol and I gotta stop him from doing something with an anchor... What does that have to do with the war? Do I really have to join a side and do chores for them to progress?

Lol sounds like MMOs aren't for you my man. I won't deny that the quests are pretty boring. When levelling new characters I don't even bother with them any more, and thank god you can skip the wailing prison after having completed it once.
The main quest line isn't even worth the damn skill points. The Prophet can keep them for all I care.

Life in Tamriel is not always a party. Not always the many laughs, the dancing and the mischief.

Saving the world and somehow also making quality time for the picking of pockets is a difficult thing.

But we rise to the challenge for we are heroes yes.

Then when we have had enough of the challenge we go drinking at The Rosy Lion or we go fishing. or we fall asleep somewhere in a flowerbed to be awoke by an angry elf with a rake.

Afaik, MMORPG are all about grinding zones/quests so you can get into groups to grind gear and stuff. Also, maybe some RP now and then. Some of us find ESO fun, even when killed in PvE/PvP, being yelled on by random ppl and so on. If you don't find ESO fun, I am sorry to hear that, maybe some other game will give you levels of enjoyment you seek. Until then, try making chars in different alliances, maybe you simply dislike the starting area you are in now.

Quite personal to the person who has it and does not always need to be shared

Now, this is your opinion. And you are entitled to it, of course.

I have my own opinions. Others have their own opinions. None are truly to be stated as fact as there are differences. It is all personal to you.

Really sounds lie MMORPG is not what you want to play. You can get by with just the main quests which don't take long. Collect skyshards as you go through zones. I guess I don't understand what you are looking for.

The tutorial isn't that long, most quests aren't that long. After the tutorial you can do as you please, anywhere anytime no restrictions, so that's an invalid argument.

I'm not saying by any means that some of it isn't boring, but that's an MMO for ya. The longer I think about if you don't like the game why did you bother signing up for the forums to complain? Seems more like trolling.

I'm surprised. I just recently did the Wailing Prison part when I created my Iron Vestige because I wanted to have some gear and it was over before I knew it. I remembered it being much longer before.

So, OP, what would you consider "FUN"?

I once asked how my cousin can sit and go through a mountain of stamps with a magnifying glass finding just the right one. Same with my uncle and his coins. They asked me how I can possibly read Marvel or DC and treat them the way they treat their coins. I cannot comprehend how ANYONE can possibly dress like a Scottish pimp and chase a little white ball across a half mile of someone's over-manicured lawn....or sit and watch stupid *** 1 chase stupid *** 2 around and around in an eternal oval in a crappy "domestic" car.

Dont even get me started on bird watching or collecting commemorative plates!!

Hobbyists do what they do because they love it. Genuine MMORPG gamers are EXACTLY that: hobbyists. Sure, "casuals" also play, but they dont really count or matter in the grand scheme of things...they simply top the hobbyist tater with a tasty gravy that keeps game company shareholders happy.

Can games endure without the casual gravy? Surely. Some games still out there that endure and thrive because of a solid base of enthusiasts and almost NO casual players (the initials E and Q come to mind). Without the hobbyist the game wont endure, because there's no hype. No buzz. Without these players there's nothing for the gravy to stick to, leaving a gloppy, useless mess on the plate that, while still tasty on its own, isnt all that appealing and just seeps all over things it really shouldnt go with.....

Ok, taking the metaphor too far. Bottom line: "grind" is a null term if you are enjoying playing. If you dont enjoy that activity, find another to do. If you cant find an activity in the game you enjoy, why the hell are you logging in?? BUT, that being said, its similar to reading a boo....ok, bad example, most people dont actually read anymore. Its similar to watching a movie: the first ten minutes wont always tell you how good its gonna be. Sometimes you need to be patient, ride out the boring setup so you can get to the REAL story.
The opinions of others should always be heard, especially if they dont agree with your own! But you always reserve the right to laugh at them.

Besides you not being the savior of ESO, I'd suggest you look at a differnt game if your that disconnected and dissatisfied with the beginning of this game.

The starting area should not take that long and never has to be repeated unless someone messes up crating a new character.

All of this is really moot since you have zero interest in the story line which and dislike the character you created even though you clearly know nothing about the game.

Honestly, rage threads from free week players should be closed upon creation.

Generally speaking, if you "absolutely hate" a tutorial, then that is an early indication that the game is not for you. That's an observation, not a criticism. Each to his/her own.

Out of interest, OP, what other MMORPGs have you played, which ones did you enjoy, and what other types of game do you also play? In short, what is the gaming background that led you to this instant dislike of ESO?

A good book on the subject is A Theory of Fun for Game Design by Raph Koster.

He was the original designer of Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies but this book is quite broad in its examination of fun in the context of all sorts of games.

I agree in part with the OP. Maybe the worst time Ive had with the game since getting it (for the first time) a couple of years back was the first week. The game looked good, was fun but I had no idea what to do, where to go etc

For me, that is a massive part of the enjoyment in the first few sessions playing a new game. I hate being spoon-fed the first few levels with markers showing me exactly where to go next. I like to explore, feel my way, see what options there are and generally get a feel for things on my own - I never have understood those new players who ask the most obvious questions in public chat or sit at the login point calling out "Lvl 1 LFG" !

You hated the tutorial, you don't care about the place you ended up in next, you think the plot is boring and that there's no reason for you to be invested in it, you appear to not like the quests, and the game is not fun for you.

Why are you playing this game? Why are you even bothering making topics?

I advice playing a few months the good old Everquest or some other good old hardcore MMOs. I have the strong belief that the TO's subjective sense for fun will have a hard change and he may appreciate the freedom of the gameplay of ESO.
Sometimes the prey turns and nips us... it's a small thing.

The quests and plot are fairly well done I think. It's just that after having done them once, the luster wears off.

You can bypass 99% of the content.

The easiest way to get out of a zone is to join a guild, then open the roster and port to a player. If you want access to a variety of zones quickly and easily, just go down the roster and port to every player that's in a different area.

At level 10, jump into the war and do the newbie quest. Get the alliance speed skill. Go to imperial city and grind to CP 160. Use your stones to buy stuff that sells well, like Hakeijo. Use the gold for gear.

I don't know if you have to complete the main story quest to level CP, but you do not have to finish the mage or fighter guild quest lines. You will need to ride through a bunch of zones and grab at least the non-delve skyshard. Also, books if you are going to use magicka.
