Brand new to PVP - Need advice

Hey all,
I am brand spankin' new to PVP, and I am completely lost. I get killed instantly even in 1v1. I also do next to no damage to other players (and FTC confirms that - I may as well be hitting them with my bare, open hand - it really is that bad). I have no idea what skills to use, and am not sure what armour sets to make. All I know is that my PVE gear doesn't seem to be helping me at all - I could go in naked and not have it make much of a difference, unless that scares people away. :)

So, this is what I have:
Stam DK, Khajiit

5 Vicious Ophidian - med, all divines
5 TBS - med, divines
Maelstrom bow sharpened
Maelstrom 1H axe precise
Maelstrom axe 1H infused (all I have at the moment)
I have 650 some CP

I am guessing I need some heavy armour, and I would guess I need impen. Do I go all heavy, or a mix of heavy/med? What crafted sets would be good to use?

For weapons, I guess I should be using 2H instead of DW, although I don't know if I have any Maelstrom ones, and I don't have any of the skills/passives leveled.

I don't have Vigor yet, which is really why I am in there, but I need a workable set up to even get that or its gonna take ages. Also, I may end up liking it and want to do more, so it would be good to have at least a starter set.

I had to wing it on skill choice, not really knowing what to use, and this is a new character (my first ever melee character in ANY game), so I am not all that familiar with it. I tossed in talons, spiked armour, flappy wings, poison injection, acid spray, flurry, and the poison claw thingie. I am using GDB and tri pots for healing. The heals are completely insufficient, but I can't do anything about that until I get Vigor. Using flappy wings, spiked armour, and GDB runs me out of magicka fast, so I feel either spiked armour or flappy wings needs to go. What skills do you consider a must have?

For ultimate, it would be really nice to have a ranged one. If I get in close to drop Standard, I die. If I get too close to an enemy and he looks at me, I die. So for now, I am trying to stay out on the fringes. I have Flawless on my DW bar for the passives, and Standard of Might on my bow bar. Maybe the bow ult would be good to have? Which ones do you recommend?

Thanks all, I appreciate any advice you can give me.

I know you might be looking for build advice and what not, which I'm sure there are plenty of people here to help out with that,

but what I can advise is this:

try to play with others and embrace playing with a group, going solo dolo will be rough and it isn't what cyrodiil pvp is designed for. it can be frustrating at first, but with practice and playing with others, can be a very fun experience

I do eventually want to play in a group, I really do. Right now though, I feel I would be a detriment to any group since I have no idea what I am doing. I die constantly, I don't have any idea about strategy, I do essentially no damage, I don't have any siege weapons or repair kits, and wouldn't know what to do with them if I did. Also, my horse is still really slow, so I don't know if I would be able to keep up.

I really don't think anyone would want me in their group, and I don't like to be the one to bring a group down. Eventually, I want to get passable gear, and I want to kind of check things out on the fringes so I can get a sense of what it's all about. Once I know a bit more about what to do, I may start asking for groups.

Thanks for the advice! I feel it is good advice, I just feel I am not ready for that.

I would like to know what you want to play as like a ganker (stealth, kill, stealth, repeat), a group DPS, a solo player, etc. I can link or give you a build set up if I know. Other than that I would say impen on all of your gear and if you'd like 5/1/1.

Best advice I can give is get impenetrable gear, you should aim for critical resist score of somewhere between 2000-2500. Personally I have 2600 critical resist and I would really like to get more one day.

I honestly couldn't tell you how I wanna play - I just don't know enough about it. However, I can say that I can't stand to see one of my teammates fighting a loosing battle and not at least try to help. However, I have been hanging back, even in these situations - although I hate it - because not only will I not be able to help him/her out, I will also get myself killed within about a second. I want to be able to live long enough to actually help out a teammate.

I can also say that I am not one that goes for stealth usually, but I have been sneaking a lot so I can watch what's going on. Eventually, I think I would want to be in the thick of things when at all possible.

Thanks Olsborg. :) Which sets would you recommend? Would you recommend 5 heavy/1 light/1 med, 5 heavy/ 2 med, or something else?

Personally, when im using a stamina build (my nb) I vastly prefer medium armor7/7, sure you are abit more squishy, but its alot more fun because you can kill faster, you have way better mobility and you can dodge fairly often. Why 7? Because of the delicous passives in medium armor, I like them better then the 4% extra stats.

I dont rly play my sorc anymore, atleast I havent done so the last 1.5 yrs if you count out the 5 hours I tested stuff again.

Thanks so much for the videos and suggestions! Does anyone happen to know what that buff timer add on is in those 2 videos that Crusnik posted? The one that has the grey bars on the screen all the time, and they fill up when you cast your buffs? That would be nice to have.

Also, can you guys recommend any crafted sets? It seems like some (all?) of these suggested are drop sets, and I need something I can use until I get those.

    Thanks again!

You really do need to join up with groups while you learn as they will teach you and you can see how they best play

Join groups or follow groups around. You will start to get the hang of it. In the beginning you will die a lot. Over time you start to figure out you rotation, and you will start winning fights.

I'd suggest leaning towards a tanky setup - you'll last longer so have more time to learn. PVP is where you REALLY learn defence and CC.

DO the started PVP quest - it will net you some AP and teach you to use siege.

Buy some stones so you can rezz, but a stone treb to attack walls and a fire ballista to defend with (attack other siege/players with it).

JOIN A GROUP. Just spam lfg in zone chat - if there's one going with space, it will pick you up. Solo PVP is HARD. You are either outnumbered or playing against solo-ers who REALLY know what they are doing. Either will be a quick run back to the spawn. If you're really wary about this - make a new toon ,and try out Blackwater blade when you hit lvl15 (for weapon swap). It's kind of expected there that there will be a fair amount of players who havn't a clue with pvp, and folk are generally helpful.
You won't bring your group down. Its not like its a PVE 4-man where not performing will make the run fail. PVP groups are all up to 24-man - and often have other soloers/small groups in the vicinity anyway - all will help each-other whether in that grp or not. Heals/buffs will often affect those inside and outside your grp. What grouping gives is a kind of critical mass of players in one place (assuming you all follow the crown) - which is needed to instigate keep attacks, and the ability to see where your group is on the map. This is REALLY helpful for new pvp-ers who don't know where to go/what to do.

Just try not to rush in and die too quick too often - ppl may get sick of rezzing you :-)

    Good luck out there!

You can actually buy 5 pieces of Black Rose from guild stores if you've got gold. You can also buy them for Tel Var (which I'm assuming you don't have much of).

If you wanted to stick with medium armor you could craft a set of Eternal Hunt (roll, roll, roll).
Clever Alchemist (crazy burst, nice base health), or even Hundings would also work.

Being newer to PVP I'd shoot for over ~24k Health buffed (good way to tweak your health up and down is run Agility Jewelry and keep an extra ring/neck with healthy so you can swap out your robust for some more HP whenever you want), and go at least 5 pc Impen for traits. If you stay medium armor you can do 2 well-fit, or if heavy 2 sturdy.

Thanks again guys for all of the advice - it is much appreciated!

I tried to find that add on, but I only found 3, and none of them seemed like the right one. I found Srendaarr - Aura, Buff and Debuff Tracker, Ultimate Buff Tracker, and Slightly Improved Buff Tracking. Is it one of these?

Alright bro here's what you're gonna wanna do X first of all disregard everything anyone before me has said cause it'll get you killed I'm PvP immediately, here's how you win
    1. Put all your points into stamina, don't ask why, just do it. It seems to give you the highest DPS, speed, sustain, and scale with the best moves in game
    2. You're gonna want to get familiar with these dungeons as you'll be farming them forever : volenfell, cradle of shadows, fungal grotto (all on vet)
    3. You're gonna want to get all the passives for 1h shield, 2handed, medium armor, and of course all your class skill lines (regardless of what class you have)
    4. Back to the dungeons, what you're going to be farming for is all impen gear (for the less than 1% time when the game glitches and allows enemy hits to actually hit you when you're running shuffle, but we'll get to that later) of the tremor scale set, specifically the helm(and shoulders, from undaunted of course. You'll want a heavy helm and light shoulders for passive max stats bro), widowmaker armor(automatically medium), and viper rings, 1h shield, and 2h (SHARPENED WEAPONS, IMPEN SHIELD).
    5. Alright now that you have that gear you're gonna wanna max out medium armor, get all the passives, and unlock evasion, once you've done this you're going to want to morph it to shuffle for the beautiful snare immunity. The tooltip SAYS 20% chance to dodge but when you have this active and dodge roll in that beautiful armor hits will just avoid you like Hillary Clinton avoids saving her emails
    6. Now, for the moves, regardless of your class, you're going to want to slot invasion (to proc tremorscale), critical rush, dizzying swing, and reverse slice. One could make the argument that executioner does more damage but with all the proccing you'll be doing you'll need to be able to execute multiple targets at once (if your procs don't already

What ever the class run 5 Heavy Black rose on the body 2 piece Tremor Helm and Shoulders
Jewelry use Viper with sword and board viper.

Have 2k base impen at minimum...just run around using taunt and watch people drop while still being tanky...welcome to cheese builds

Oh go 64 Stam and reduced cost for Stam in CP

    Stam Sorc
    Stam NB
    Stam DK
Stam Templar can all run that setup you just get different strengths
Hollykills CP 630 Templar Healer - Ad PS4 Warlord Rank

    Max Stam/Mag Dk
    Max Stam Sorc
    Max Stam/Mag NB

Don't care to dps much so I heal.
